Sounds like it could be a timing issue. Check the flywheel key has not wore and moved from the slot. You will need to remove the pull cord cover and access the flywheel to see if its worn. The key will be a small piece of "metal" that will slide into a slot between your stator and the spline from the engine. The "key" keeps the spline and stator lined up for timing, which would cause smoke and backfiring, even power loss, and sputtering. Hope this helps!
Check to see that the pinion gear of the starter is hooting out and engaging the flywheel.
And if it is working it is possible that you have missing tooth/teeth on your flywheel and the starter cannot turn over the engine because of that.
pump is suffering excessive oil pressure
you are very short on the details of the failure --broken shaft , gears , chain housing etc but I would be checking oil passage blockages, faulty pump pressure regulator spun bearing that the pump feeds into the oil galleys

drian engine oil take side cover should be an 8m to 12m depending on the model... the stator might be attached to the cover or might have a mount holding it into place to the fly wheel
T is usually the mark on the flywheel and there's usually a mark on the cam sprocket and head to line up. you can google up a service manual too most likely.
