Question about Kenmore 94052 Dryer

Dryer drum will not turn.

When the start button is pushed (with the timer in any position), you heard a buzz, but the drum does not turn. Should I suspect the timer?

Hello.

If the buzz continues to go for awhile(2-3 minutes before you stop it you will need to replace the belt on your dryer.

If the buzz quits pretty quickly after you let go of the start button and you smell something hot or electrical, you will need to replace the motor.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Buzzer goes off when you push the start button to start and will not run

Depends on the buzzing noise. If it's the sound of a "end of cycle" buzzer, then it could be a few things. Check to be sure door switch isn't broke and that the drum inside still turns with some resistance (not to hard, but not to easy either). You might have a timer issue, which the contacts are stuck in the off position, a start switch that might be stuck in position, a motor issue, all the way up to a wiring problem. Try tapping on the start button a couple times, rotating the timer switch for a few minutes, turning the drum a few times to see if you can shake it loose. If not, you will have to take the console back off and see if there is a tech sheet in there. Can follow the wiring and timing charts to narrow down the problem.

Push the start button. The dryer will run. Release start button and the dryer stops. The end of cycle chime sounds. The timer ticks. Placed all controles in every position and the results are the same.If...

probably has a broken belt, there is what is called a "Broken Belt" switch by the motor inside on the idler pulley tensioner for the belt,if the belt breaks this switch opens so the dryer wont run without the drum turning so as not to overheat and burn your clothes, replace the drum belt and you should be good to go

the noise is coming from the motor,if you can spin the drum by hand and it moves freely you have a bad motor and need to change it out, next time send model number and the brand name of dryer,if it doesn't spin, the belt could be jammed up or something stuck in the blower wheel, let me know how you make out

Maytag Dryer won't start withouth me turning the drum.

Good day. Ugly problem.
My first choice would have been the motor, but.......
Here is the process, it might help you.
The power to the motor goes first to and thru the door switch. It then returns to the timer.
When the timer is turned to any running position, power leaves the timer where it is split into 2 leads.

One of the power leads goes directly to the centrifugal switch Which is the switch on the motor with all the wires. If you spin the drum, you also spin the motor, and if spun fast enough will close the contacts on the cetrifugal switch, thus sending power to the motor, allowing it to run. I guess you have done that.

The second lead out of the timer goes to the push to start switch, it then leaves and goes to the centrifugal switch but on the power side, so it is directly connected to the main winding in the motor.
That is why when you press the press to start switch, the motor runs, and if held in it will continue to run.
In fact, at this point, the motor had 2 sources of power, either of which can run the motor.
Thus releasing the push to start switch doesn't matter, since it runs off the other source.

Possibilities.
The centrifugal switch is not wired right. Please recheck. (or the motor was bad out of the box. Happens).
The push to start switch is bad, and needs replaced.
Or, the wiring going to or leaving the push to start switch has broken or making a bad connection.
Lastley, I said the power comes out of the timer and splits into 2 circuits. Not always true, in some models the timer sends 2 seperate wires out carrying the power, with the possibility the timer could be bad.

Hope this helps.
and thank for using FixYa
