Question about Apple iMac 24-inch 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mac Desktop

1 Answer

My imac 0s 10.5.7 goes blank and restarts mid work. I thought maybe a mouse problem so took off the wireless and put on the one that came with the imac. That didn't solve the problem.

I don't understand your question totally. It goes black like it shuts off then in a few minutes it will restart as if it was just turned on. It is plugged in to power but runs wirelessly to the cable box and printer thru another identical imac in the same home office. I had noticed a fan like noise -which I don't I don't know what that means either. Could this be that it heats up and shuts down for self protection?

no it isn't a new install it was on the computer when I bought it. In fact I bought 2 of them. The computer is an imac 10.5.7. I have done all the software updates. The other computer is not doing this.
It goes black during work. A few minutes later it will restart. If left un- attended it will continue to stop and start on its own.

It sounds like either a hardware problem that has been shown up when you installed Leopard, or your Leopard install hasn't gone smoothly.
IS it a new install?

Now what did the Thermal Paste have to do with the swapping in a new Hdd. You've now added another variable to the equation before solving the first problem, getting it up and running. Grab another Mac and put the iMac in Target Disc mode, firewire the two, use the USB drive with 10.8 and install it on the iMac and see how that goes.

Wireless keyboard and mouse not working after reastart

Just a thought--try this. Go into the device manager and delete all the USB ports. Don't worry--they will be reinstalled on restart. Sounds like there is something having to do with them that is confusing the computer.
Just right-click on My Computer (or Computer in Win 7), choose properties and then click on device manager to get there.

  • Hi,
  • The Super Drive may be trying to eject a disk that is not even physically there. this worked for me before as a kind of reset.

    1. Restart your computer, and hold down the mouse button. If you have a 2 button mouse, hold down the left click.
    2. If your computer has an eject key on the keyboard, restart the computer again, this time holding the eject key.
    3. Open a Terminal window and type in drutil tray eject.
    Hope this works for you

Keyboard and Mouse don't work anymore

Hi, Sorry you are having problems,
Well Marcelo, the first thing to do in a situation like this is to restart your Mac or even better, shut down and restart. So, if you have done this, and still the keyboard and mouse don't respond, and, as you have mentioned, you have tried the other USB ports on the back of the Mac, it sounds like somehow, unexpectedly, your iMac motherboard got a shock of some kind and it killed the USB controller....
Last thing to try is to unplug the iMac completely of everything and let it sit for 10 minutes and then plug just the keyboard and mouse back in and try to see if that does the trick..
Otherwise, Apple will cover this if it is still under warranty.
Good Luck.

Wirless mouse is not working

Try another wireless MAC mouse to check to see if it has failed. If the new one does not work, then the wireless receiver in the computer is not responding and will need service.

I am assuming that you checked to see that the mouse set-up is enabled.
