The Light Engine is bad, you can't buy the Polarizers that go bad by themselves. Very expensive repair.

My panasonic rear projeciton ty 5448911 has a blue ghost. Is the just the bulb?

People who bought rear-projection TVs between 2003 and 2007are bound to find their sets failing with blue, green or yellow blotches, hazing or bands disturbing the picture. It is often called the 'blue haze'problem. This LCD projection blue haze problem is coming from a faulty partknown as the optical block which is expensive to replace, and since Sony hasnot re-engineered the part, will only be replaced with another defective LCDprojection part that will last only between 1 - 4 years, depending on usage. Asit appears Sony produced these expensive TVs knowing about the defect, theyfinally have to reckon with the thousands of customers involved. If you own aSony rear-projection television, here are some steps you can take when the LCDprojection blue haze problem becomes apparent on your TV.
Instructions 1. * 1 Getinformed. Be aware that Sony just extended the warranty of all 2007 rear-viewprojections models (enacted at the end of October 2009) -- just like theprevious years -- so all models now have extensions. Also be aware that theyare not notifying the owners of these extensions even if owners have registeredtheir purchases. There is a lot of information now circulating about how torecognize blue haze problems and the background of how the problem came about. * 2 ContactSony directly about your LCD projection problem. Sony Customer Information Service Center (toll-freetelephone support) is 1.800.222.7669. The SonyCustomer InformationService Center("Priority Service") in Floridais 239.768.7547. * 3 Expect to be told you will need to haveyour set evaluated by a Sony-Authorized service center. Be aware that even ifyou have your optical block placed replaced and the service charge refunded, itwill only be a temporary fix until the replacement burns out again. * 4 Considerif other offers are right for you. Sony may offer you a discount on a new TV intheir "Special Consideration Program". (They stopped makingrear-projection televisions in 2007, but are now producing other flat paneledLCDs and other formats.) Make sure the offer is worth your while by pricing outother sources for buying TVs on sale or discounted before jumping at thisoffer. * 5 If you arenot satisfied with Sony's Customer Relations offers, you can appeal to theirExecutive Review Committee. * 6 If stilldissatisfied with offers regarding blue haze problem on your Sonyrear-projection TV, you can contact the Better Business Bureau. * 7 You canalso take the legal approach. If all else fails, you can file a civil lawsuitsuch as small claims or have a lawyer initiate a class action suit. * 8 There area number of resources with detailed information about how to handle the LCDprojection blue haze problem. Little blue dots on screen and large blue haze in upper left corn

Sounds like the light engine is going bad...that's why they stopped making these rear projection sets using LCD's. Costs almost as much as a new set! But get a second opinion before trashing it.

Light Blue Haze close to the center of the screen

The Optical Engine needs to be replaced. You would need to contact LG / Zenith to get a Service Facility out to confirm the problem and see if they would be willing to help you with the cost. If they do not help with the cost, it will probably not be worth investing the money into it.
I hope this helps,

I have the same problem with blue haze that just spread out on model 55VS69A ,
tv is almost 2 years old. i called hitachi and they advised to call a local repair center to check the tv...they confirmed Optical Block (light engine ) replacement light engine cost $1400 and labour $400, so i called back hitachi and they said they will provide light engine and will have to pay labour!....this is not right paying out of pocket for a tv less than 2 years old....I am not sure if the issue will resurface again...more likely ....Hitachi is supposed to issue a recall or atleast like sony did to cover all cost for there defective TV's....I will NEVER buy hitach again.

Hitach SUCKS.

Blue haze on hitachi 51" tv

I finally emailed Hitachi about the blue haze and since my televison is only 16 months old they agreed to pay for the part (they didn't say what part) and I will have to pay the service charge. The repairman is coming out on 2 Apr 08. I will post results after that.

Blue area near center of screen

Uh Oh! blue screen of death. Your light engine has warped a little from overheating and is distorting the picture.

My suggestion to you is to get on the phone with hitachi and start complaining, then keep complaining until they agree to pay for it. You may have to get the problem diagnosed by a pro before they agree to pay for it though.
