Problem with picture

I have daewoo model CTS 2090. The color picture is great except there is
a black rectangle (approx 12'' x 5') covering part of the lower half of the picture. This happens even when I am watching a DVD, so I figure it's the TV.

Hello jcdcam,

Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!

Your issue is caused but the logic control to the menus displays being "Stuck".
You can try this simple fix before following up with my next suggestion; if the first doesn't work.

Unplug power to this TV and pull the batteries from your remote for 15 minutes. Afterwards, put the batteries back in and plug the TV back in. If the picture is normal, "Yea! We win."
If the picture returns with the "Dark Menu" you will have to have the tuner control board replaced.

Have a great day!

I have a similar problem using an older 20" flat screen standard definition TV. (not High Def). I can see a little of the picture but more than 2/3 is covered by the black. My model is LC-20SH7U.
I used sharpusa.com "contact us" section.
Hopefully I get some kind of reply to report what they say.

Sounds like your closed caption may be on and here is how to turn it off..

1. Press the menu button until you get to the "SPECIAL" menu.
2. Make sure that Closed Caption and CC on mute are both set to OFF.

This should make that black box go away...

Good Luck and please rate this solution...

See if you can center the picture in the setup menu. It sounds like it's just off center.
