before you tear apart your dj poke something into the headphone jack... i opened mine up and tried to fix it and couldnt then my dad just shoved a lil flat head screwdriver into the headphone jack and now it works fine

What you have is a bad battery. Your base unit is powering it while its mounted there, but as soon as you remove it, it dies.
There are some battery places that sell them for $30-$40 plus shipping, I found them on Ebay for $14.99 and free shipping. They come from Hong Kong so expect it to take about 3-4 weeks to arrive.
