Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Mayteg model DE313 clothes dryer that stopped drying clothes.

I have a Mayteg clothes dryer, model DE313 series 05, which has sudenly stopped drying our clothes. After setting the AUTO DRY REGULAR CLOTHES switch to the medium - more dry position, and pressing the start button, the tumbler drum turns okay, however the unit never gets hot. That is, no matter how long it tumbles the clothes, upon opening the door, the clothes remain wet and cold. I suspect that the heating element needs to be replaced. Is this an accurate assessment of the problem? Thanks for your help! John Tancredi610-635-0519higbytoys@yahoo.com

That is a very accurate assessment of the problem. Check the element for continuity between its two contacts. If there is none, replace it. If there is, look for a fuse on the side with two wires going to it. Test it for continuity. If there is none, replace it.

Your Sensor that senses the clothes are wet or dry is shorted out. The dryer works likes this so the dryer heaters dont stay on while the clothes are dry. When the sensor senses the clothes are damp or wet, the heater stays on, when they start drying the sensor senses it and starts to turn down the heaters

Replace the ignitor you broke and check gas valve coils for continuity (they should be in the range of 500 - 2000 Ohm, don't remember exactly). Very likely one of them has failed.
Part numbers for the ignitor (any will do, they're identical):

4391996
WE4X750
5303937186

Part numbers for gas valve coils (complete kit, also identical):

279834

Dryer will not turn off

If your dryer seems to run forever, it could be because of a clogged vent or internal ductwork. Your dryer may have an automatic cycle that turns off the dryer when the clothes are dry. It does this with a special thermostat or moisture-sensing system.

Normally, this is what happens during an automatic cycle:

  • The thermostat tells the dryer to heat until the interior of the dryer reaches a pre-set temperature--say 135 degrees.

  • When the dryer reaches the pre-set temperature, the thermostat tells the timer to begin advancing. (If there's a moisture sensor, the timer advances only if the moisture content of the clothing is low enough.)

  • The timer advances until the interior cools, then the thermostat tells the timer to stop advancing, and tells the dryer to start heating again.

This cycle continues until the clothes are dry. But…if the vent is clogged, the dryer may never reach the proper operating temperature, so it doesn't send the signal to the timer and the dryer continues to run indefinitely, even if the clothes are completely dry. To fix the problem, clean the vent and/or internal ductwork.

Fabric looking belt came out of dryer. when i try to dry clothes it makes a loud noise and smells like something is burning and my clothes get twisted. how do i fix it? I have a kenmore 70 series dryer

Stop using your dryer in its current condition. That fabric looking felt is probably your drum seal. They commonly wear out. I will need your dryer model number in order to confirm how your dryer is configured and give you accurate advice on part numbers and directions on how to replace. The model number should be listed on a name plate around the door opening.
