Question about Carrier 38CKC030 Air Conditioner

Coil and fins start ice up

I have a Samsung Split unit. Unit (A) is on the lower floor, and works fine.
Unit (B) is on the 2nd floor which is giving me a problem. The unit is about 5 years old. The other day when it was hot I turned on the upstairs unit. I noticed the upstairs unit not blowing cold air like it used to. I cleaned all the filters and made sure everything was clean. I turned on the unit again and within about 3 min. I noticed ice build up on the fins and coil. What can cause this?

The fins are dirty. They need to be washed every year or two with an acid based cleaner. They MUST be rinsed completely.

Carrier split unit aircon mdl 42P100c has water dripping from the unit mounted internally onto floor.

Due to non maintenance of a/c. Col and air filter dust blocked. Due to this, some time ice formation over the coil will be there. Clean air filter, coil and blower wheel. And also drain pan.
If you see any ice formation over the coil after service, it's meant for short of gas. Thanks.

Your evaporator coils frost up in normal use and every eight hours or so the entire unit shuts down and the defrost heater comes on to melt the frost. This cycle last about 20 minutes. The melted frost drips into a drain pan and through a drain tube to the drain tray under the freezer/refrigerator where it's evaporated by the condenser fan.

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer. If this repeatedly happens with yours, you may can prevent it by taking a bare copper wire and wrap it around a fin near the heater and put the other end a few inches down the drain. The heat convection may prevent it from freezing.

Ice on the coil fins of my Window AC unit......

set your unit to fan mode only, to thaw the ice, after the ice melts, look at your evaporator coil, see if its dirty, if its dirty, then you might just need a good cleaning. if the coil is clean, look at your thermostat setting. it should not be all the way cold. the compressor would run continously and it would freeze the coil. third, the refrigerant system could be partially clogged up or it lacks refrigerant. these problems initiate freezing of the coil.
