I have lacie rugged 2.5" hard drive 500 gb portable mini external hard drive and password protected. Then i forgot the password. so my question is how to recover password of this external hard drive

Go to computer Management, change the drive letter from F:\ to any letter.

go in to add new hardware in control panel and run external drive ere from there use disc if u have one or go to vendor's support page and download driver's from there

Before you resort to freezers and desperation, know that the external power supplies for these things are a. crucial and b. delicate. If the output voltage is down for any reason, it can produce the same clicking symptoms. I would get to a repair shop, and ask them to test the drive with a 'known good' power supply. I did so this very morning with a LaCie drive: no more clicking, happily mounting drive...and power supply replaced under warranty. Good luck

I managed to fix mine with a little bit of work.
This website has a readme file that specifies the partitions. You must be using Linux.

1. Plug the drive in a Linux computer, or use a Linux Live disk.
2. Create all the partitions according to the readme file. Use extended partition for the first "container". Linux Swap for the second partition. Use Ext3 format for the remaining.
3. Extract all the SDA6-8 files with bzip.
4. Use "dd" command to write those images to partitions sda6 - sda8 which you just created with this command: dd if=/dev/home/ubuntu/sda6 of=/dev/sda6 bs=512
5. Substitude /home/ubuntu above for the location where you placed the image files.
6. Once all 3 images have been written, the drive should be good to go. Put it back in the edmini, start it up and see if the website comes up. You may have the "format" the drive from the admin utility once its up and going.

external must be a self encrypted drive. SED
or do you use BITlocker on it. we can not guess use.
the lock is in the drive or in the app called bitlocker. or even other apps.
nobody on earth can guess how it got locked
by APP or in the drive
worse no drive model told at all, just 500 size.
useless facts all that.
now some facts, regardless of above'
1: SED drives can not be hacked, guessing sure.
they were sold or EXTRA cash just for that fact
its called full security. But most can be erased.
2: bitLocker (or others like it ) the same exact answer,
next time write it down or use lasspass.com
3: not told , is there data there not backed-up elsewhere?
