Question about Craftsman 17.5 hp 42 in. Deck Lawn Tractor - CA Model

Starter clicks i first thought that bad batter but no, then starter solenoid, no, i am finding that the key switches are going bad grounding out, it may start out taking a few time to get you starter to engage, then you may notice that your amp gauge may spike, you may even blow fuses all led back to the key switch, a quick cheap fix.

2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse won't crank over. Takes a few times turning the key over and over to get it to crank. Other times it starts right up no problem. Is my starter going out?

Not necessarily. You may simply have a bad connection at the battery or at the starter solenoid. You could also have a grounding problem at the starter or at the starter solenoid. Or you could have a failing contact in your key switch! When you try to crank the engine, but it does not crank, do you hear any clicks or any kind of rattle sound or buzz? If you hear a click but no cranking of the engine, then you may have a bad starter solenoid ... which, if available, is a lot cheaper than a replacement starter!

TO-30 quit running, puff of smoke from electrical? Won't turn over

It is possible to have the solenoid go bad but not while the tractor is running as it is only used to engage the starter. It sounds like the wires to the starter is shorted out. I would run a hot wire to the solenoid from the battery to the solenoid and see if it will start. Just be sure everything is grounded. If the ground cable on the battery is ok you should not have a problem with running a hot wire to the solenoid. Just touch the hot wire to the starter and then release it when the starter engages. Hope this helps.

Having starter relay problems 1994 5.2 liter grand cherokee

check all connections from battery to starter solenoid, check your ground connection as well to motor block. If solenoid clicks when key is turned it is most likely a bad connection somewhere if it does not click it can be a bad solenoid, a bad neutral switch from transmission. If it does click and you have checked ALL connections then you may just have a bad starter.

I have a 2000 chevy malibu ls. at first..we just thought that the battery needed charged..so we bought a new battery.. then it still wouldnt start..so we bought a new starter and replaced that..and it...

DO you hear a clicking when you turn the key to start? Solenoid relay make a click sound when energized.
If the solenoid is not mounted on the starter motor then it will be near the battery
The key switch sends power to the solenoid. the solenid is a big remote controlled switch, and it takes power from the battery to the starter motor

Got new plugs thought batter was dead so jumped with car batter but won't start just clicks won't turn over help

Possible that your starter motor is stuck. Please make sure that your jump starterr connection is very good in contivity, make sure that the main line ground is good. test your horn , main lights to test this. When the starter is depressed with your light on does the click simultaneously make the light go too dim. if so check if the starter is stcuk. you will need to remove the starter, open and clean teh brushes, maybe if the bushes are worn to replace. clean and reset.test the motor externally before mounting. make sure that the solenoid contactor is working well and the full supply come to the motor.this must solve your issue. Good day

1987 bronco will not start

Ford used alot of fuseable links, mostly around starter selenoid, look around for them and everyone you find try pulling them apart if there bad or burnt they will pull apart and there is your problem. If you don't find one burnt, than its got to be in the wire comming from the switch, heck there might be one of them fuseable links in that wire too.I never had to go that far to find a burnt one it was always around the selenoid or starter.

solenoid switch is on top of starter . thare is also a starter relay in the fuse box under the hood . find this relay and see if it clicks when the key is turned over.get someone to turn key while you put your finger on the relay if its clicking then the starter solenoid is bad, some of thesesolenoids must be replaced with the starter.

Won't start not even click

I am pretty sure you have a bad solenoid on your starter. Sometimes if you tap on them while someone holds the key in start they will make contact and it will start. Best solution is replace solenoid. You can check it by having someone hold the key in start and measure the voltage from the small wire to ground, if it is bad you will have voltage but it will not even click. Hope that helps you.

1992 Dodge Stealth Starting Problem

It could be a problem that you can test quickly. You'll need someone to turn the ignition switch for you while the car is raised so that you have access to the starter. There is 1 small wire going to the solenoid from the ignition switch, it controls when the starter engages & is only supposed to light when the Ignition switch is in the start position. If when the key is in the start position you have voltage there, the switches are all working. By switches I mean the Ignition switch and one of these depending on the type you have.

There is a neutral safety switch on automatic trans. & a clutch safety switch on manual transmissions, but those are the only safegaurds betweeen the ignition switch and the solenoid.

While you're under the car, if the solenoid wire is getting power, test the bottom large lead going into the starter & see if it's got power. If so and the starter isn't turning, you either have a bad starter or some bad connections in the starting system.

Make sure the terminals and both post are clean & protected with a good coat of grease or vaseline. You should always remove the Neg.(-) cable to disconnect the power supply and prevent sparking or shorting while working on the wiring or charging the battery.

You would want to just check all of your connections next, even a bad ground wire going to the block could be causing the problem. I believe you will find a main ground and a minor ground wire on the transaxle assy, one specifically on a bellhousing bolt and those grounds need to have clean contact.

good luck.
