Hunter ceiling fan-just installed -possible speed control problem

Just installed a new Hunter ceiling fan Paramount XP 23248. Turned on fan from wall switch. Was okay, But when adjusting speed with chain, there is only high, low and off. No medium speed. Any suggestion on what the problem could be?

Sounds like the fan is defective. All internal wiring from the switch to the motor is factory installed. The fan has power going to it. Just to make sure, double check the wiring from the ceiling fixture to the fan.
Problem could be a faulty switch on the fan or faulty motor(bad winding for med. speed). Try reverse switch on the fan to operate the opposite direction and see if medium speed works. If medium does work in opposite direction, it pretty much points to a defective fan. In any case, unless you discover that the ceiling wires were reversed going into the fan, I'd say new fan to the returns dept.

It's a 3-speed ceiling fan that's for sure. I think the same a fixer1950 already said...

Hunter fan 27185 has lost speed

Remote controlled ceiling fans can suffer a lapse of memory when there is a power outage. You eliminated the possibility of a dead battery in the remote by installing a new battery, but just to be sure remove the new battery and press all the buttons on the remote to eliminate the possibility of a stuck button then reinstall the battery. Next disconnect power to the fan at the breaker box, not a wall switch or by tugging on a chain. Turn the fan power on again. Using only the remote, check operation.

Howdy,

Sounds like a good ol' American made Hunter Original to me. BEST and most powerful residential ceiling fan (high quality) ever made. The RPM spec is 200-160-50 for the respective speeds, moving 10,500 CFM on high speed. Most ceiling fans barely crack 5,000 CFM. they were built for Brute Force Air Movement and they really don't do well for small spaces. The best solution I have for you is if you have a Wall switch for this fan, to install a Hunter Original Wall control or remote control. http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=hunter+original+control&_sacat=See-All-Categories

Both controls will lower the Medium speed to about 100-110 rpm, which should be much more comfortable for you.

Because the Hunter Original (I know your fan is an American made unit by your wire colors) draws more current than other fans, the Original controls are the only controls that are designed to work with your fan. Other controls do not have the current capacity for the Original motor.

Also, are you aware your fan uses oil?

Hello .. you should be able to find a replacement for your fan control at any building supply store, a home depot type store. Look or ask for a variable speed fan control. This is slightly different from a normal liight dimmer . You might also look for a replacement knob before replacing the whole switch, or matbe getting a replacement just to replace the knob ..

My Hunter 20803 ceiling fan only works at one speed. The part that controls the speed (5uf 250WV.AC) burned out.Home Depot & Lowes do not carry that part. Any advice on where to find the part besides...

The part you are making reference to is a capacitor and you can very likely get a replacement one at any local Radio Shack store. It is best to take the defective part with you so they can review all the markings to get the best replacment part you need.

If the capacitor isn't connected with wire nuts, you'll want to cut the wires as close to the capacitor as possible, so you'll have some wire to reconnect the new part. I also suggest you take a picture with your digital camera or camera phone BEFORE you remove the bad part, that way, you can refer back to it, when you are installing the new part.

With any electrical device, you will want to disconnect it from the power source before doing any repair or service work on it, to prevent electrical shock hazards. In the case of a ceiling fan, you can either remove the fan from the ceiling or turn off the breaker that provides power to that room (check to make certain you got the correct breaker turned off!) Also, you can make sure the wall switch that controls this fan, if you have one, is turned "off". You can tape over the switch to remind others not to turn it on, etc. while you get the parts to make the repair.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

My Hunter fan will only switch from high to low speed and won't

if the three speed switch is functioning the middle speed winding is bad.  Either replace the fan or hook up a wall speed control and keep the fan on high.
