Question about Frigidaire FRS6R5EMB Side by Side Refrigerator

Ice maker not making ice

I had a particle blocking my drain, but have gotten it out. I turned off my fridge. for 24 hours, thinking it was ice build up, but like i said it was an item blocking the drain. After getting it all back together, (the drain is working fine now) my ice maker will not make ice. I have never had this problem before. I have the wire signal arm down, which is in the right position, the lines in the back are not kinked, and i am getting water out of the dispenser. I have moved the auger to serveral positions, but still nothing. The book says to realign the auger by turning it 90 degrees untill the ice bin fits into place with the drive mechanism. To me, it seems to fit, no matter how i turn the auger, but still no ice. Can anyone offer an suggustions ?

I have water pooling in the bottom of my fridge, what would it be

more than likely you have a clogged drain. This occurs when the machine goes into defrost and the melted ice somehow is prevented from draining and therefor refreezing and blocking the drain for the next defrost cycle. Over time it gradually builds and starts voer a larger area. Being you have a top mount refrigerator(freezer on top) there are air ways that connect the freezer to the fridege, which is how its cooled. The best way to resolve this is to unplug the machine for atleast 24-48 hours to let all ice melt

I have a Kenmore side by side model # 106.53609202 and its about 8 years old. About a month ago it stopped making ice. I've already replaced the water valve behind the fridge and waited 24 hours and...

OK, remove the cover on the face of the ice maker and let me know if the model look like this picture:
12_17_2011_1_36_01_am.jpgIf it looks like this model, I have the service manual for it with all the testing procedures. If it doesn't, see if you can get a model number off the unit. They make about 4 different model for this unit.

Water is leaking into the refrigerator from the freezer it seems to be worse when the ice maker is on

if it's worse with the ice maker on i'd have to say the ice maker is leaking but normally the water is from a blocked drain in the freezer.unplug it,remove everything out of the freezer, pull off the inside back wall of the freezer, melt out all the ice with a hair dryer, next you'll see a hole under the evap coil, that's the drain, you have to free it up,i use a steemer to blow down through the drain but if you don't have a steemer keep heating up the area where the drain hole is,you can try using a turkey baster to blow through the drain, when you think the drain is clear pour hot water into the drain hole,if it goes down you're done,if it doesn't keep heating it until the water drains down the hole.also open the fridge door,in the top of the fridge in the middle of the ceiling and where it touches the back wall you'll see a mold, that's also the drain, heat that area up with the hair dryer to melt out the ice in the drain.the problem is slime builds up in the drain, when the fridge goes into defrost the heater comes on and melts the ice off of the evap coil and the water goes down the drain and into the drip pan on the bottom of the fridge, your drain is blocked and the water is leaking into the fridge, the drain has to be cleared.good luck with your machine.if i can help you with anything else let me know.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

First off check the freezer door switch for operation. Depress the plunger and make sure the light goes off when the door switch plunger is depressed. Ligt stays on = bad door switch / no ice production as the door switch provides power to the ice-maker when the door is closed.

Here is a link to the steps on how to troubleshoot an ice-maker.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=12&newsdesk_id=34

Let me just add that many ice-maker related problems are due to the freezer temp rising above 16 deg F. The freezer starts warming up due to ice build up on the evaporator coils and then the internal air-flow is blocked by the ice build up causing the temps to rise. Look closely at the back of the unit for any signs of ice build up.
If you see ice build up......
1. Unplug the unit
2. Remove the freezer contents
3. Place a fan directing air into the freezer for just over 2 hours. (Water mess!)
4. Clean up the excess water and restart the unit. (Add freezer content)
5. After 8 - 10 hours check for ice production.

If after doing the above you have ice production then most likely you have an automatic defrosting problem.

If it still does not make ice, the steps in the link above will isolate what has failed in the ice-maker.

Before testing the ice-maker using the steps in the link.. I recommend you peform a manual defrost with a fan. If 8 - 10 hours after the manual defrrost you do not have ice production,, use the link and troubleshoot the ice maker.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

There is a drip inside the refrigerator. I shut off the water supply for the ice maker and it is still dripping. Now what?

your defrost drain is clogged with ice. Its not clogged for any other reason than ice build up covers drain hole. empty your fridge, turn off and open both doors, blow fan for 24 hours to clear out all ice. this is a common problem with kenmore top freezer models. Whirlpool refrig - i'm finding water under the vegetable bins and on the top shelf in the mornings. Freezer has no problem and is defrosting fine. I can't figure out where the water is coming from. No...

there is a drain in the freezer so when the fridge defrosts the water drains down to the pan in the bottom of fridge, your drain is blocked, you need to take off the inside freezer back wall, melt out the ice with a hair dryer and then unblock the drain,i use a steamer to do this, they cost around 50 bucks, the drain line is plastic so you don't want to go sticking anything down the line that can damage it,slime builds up in the line or food particles go down the drain and then ice builds up in the line, the steamer cuts through this and sanitizes the line,if the drain goes strait you can install a heater probe,it's just a piece of metal that you rap around the heater and stick the other end down the drain hole so it won't freeze up again, when you think the line is clear, pour hot water down the drain to make sure it's clear,be careful when melting out the ice with hair dryer,to much heat can damage the styrofoam, make sure the air vents are melted out, they are the holes in the styrofoam, you might have to melt it out from inside the refridgerator section heating the area up on the ceiling, also make sure the control is shut off to the freezer, you don't want the fan to be blowing, good luck

I have a roper model RT14ZKXDWOO and the freezer is working fine but the refrig is warm. I took the panel off the back of the freezer and it is full of ice. What should i do next? and is there a diagram...

Hi,maybe I can shed a little light.I don`t know where the defrost timer is,but I would melt the ice with a hair dryer and real warm water(it will make a mess so be ready). There will be a drain inside of the freezer compartment,on the inside. Some how the rear panel inside the freezer compartment comes out.You may have to take apart the whole inside of the freezer compartment just to remove this rear panel. But when you do look for ice build up on bottom of freezing unit, and the rearof the freezer compartment.Melt this ice the same way earlier described. You will find a drain that starts inside the bottom-rear of the freezer compartment. This drain goes all the way down to the bottom of the fridge. You will find a very shallow drip pan under the fridge. This pan will most of the time only receive a little amount of water at a time and evaporates quickly. Now while you thaw this drain, water will start draining threw the drain,if it is not stoped up with food particles and such. This would be a good tome to blow threw this ine from the bottom where it drains into the pan underneth the fridge. Then blow threw it at the top in the freezer compartment. You can use a air tank with a blow gun.Be sure to pour water threw and down this drain to wash out all particles left behind.Clean the freezer compartment out good(the particles of food and such) and reassemble the freezing unit.plug fridge back up and set the freezer control to a respectfull setting(not the coldest and not real cold)and set the frideration to a decent setting for food preservation. Let the fridge and freezer run 12 to 24 hours to see if your problem comes back, and then time will tell if your defrost timer is bad,or is working like it should. When the drain clogs,it starts freezing away from the defrost elements and continues freezing the blocked water untill it overtakes the coils .The defrost and the timer don`t stay on long enough,or hot enough to overcome the ice. This is the reason you should try this solution first. If I can help you anymore, let me know roniecon@gmail.com /let me know how it turns out
