What are the best settings for a Lowrance Elite 5x for freshwater use only. Applicable to Sensitivity, noise rejection and water clarity settings

Noise rejection = low
surface clarity = off
in the menu, sonar options choose "bottom color tracking white background" this will make the lake bottom appear brown and r he fish bright green.
Automatic sensitivity, but you can adjust it up or down to filter out background clutter and the unit will honor your settings.

How do i get the fish on the screen to look like fish

Your unit should have a setting labeled "FISH ID" turn this setting on and you will see fish shaped icons instead of arches on your screen. You may also see numbers by these icons. Those numbers represent the depth of the fish at that moment.
Be forewarned that at times your unit will show the fish icons when there aren't actually any fish below the boat. Hope this helps.

Just bought this heater for my tank, but its not heating it up to 90 degrees like I want.

how big is your tank? iig greater than about 20 gal, you probably need a higher wattage heater.

Got a HDS 5 and im getting bad or false on my sonar when traveling showing fish and structure. When trying to hold ground and im backing up it doesn't even read?i have it on auto sensitivity

Check the mounting and cable connection of the transducer on the stern. If loose will tilt during movement, in reverse wakes from the prop. CAREFULLY check unit during these conditions. The transducer needs to be completely submerged. Good Luck.

My fishfinder will not continue to read shallow depths as well as in shallow depths when drifting and occasionally running across the water. My unit is a lowrance 522c color gps/fishfinder.

Hello. Your observation is spot on and it is actually a characteristic that is always true when using sonar. Yes, your Lowrance uses the same sonar as a nuclear powered submarine does. The two factors you focus on, water depth and boat speed are perhaps, the two biggest factors when it comes to the quality of the fishfinder. The boat's engine should be in gear at an idle or just above. Experiment with your boat to find the best throttle location for good arches. Usually, a slow trolling speed works best. The depth of the fish can determine if the fish will arch on the screen. If the fish is in shallow water, the fish is not in the cone angle very long, making it difficult to show an arch. Typically, the deeper the fish, the easier it is to show an arch.

How do you get the fish to show up on the screen on a lowrance X96 depth finder? We just got it and there is no manual with it.

Are you looking for the little fish symbols?
Press MENU, down arrow to SONAR FEATURES and press ENT. Arrow to FISH SYMBOLS and press ENT. Press EXIT twice. Any significant return in the water will now show up as a fish symbol.

Are you looking for the fish arches?
You won't get any arches unless the boat is moving and of course there are fish passing within the transducers signal. The shallower the water, the less area you are covering and less likely to get a fish return.

There is an OK guide to understanding what you see on the sonar screen at the link below. It if pretty technical but parts of it may help you out.
