Question about Frigidaire ATF6000ES Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Smell With my front loader, water gets in the trap and stands in between the rubber where the front door closes causing a horrible smell and souring all the clothes unless they are removed immedately. I have pulled the rubber apart and cleaned this area out, only to have it refill. I am worried that with too much pulling I will eventually rip or weaken the rubber. My question is, is this a typical problem / flaw with this model, are they all this way or does mine have a defect? Is there something I can do to fix this aside from buying a new washer?

we spent $1300 on a front loader washer and dryer and the washer has just been awful, there is an musty, terrible smell in our clothes no matter what we do, I have tried bleach, which seems to be the common recommendation (which does not work for us), or to buy special products to stop the smell (which were not part of the bargin). I bought these appliances with the notion that I had normal washer and dryer which was more efficient and would save us money. If I had known of these problems, I would have stuck with the top loaders which never caused me these headaches. I really want frigidaire to take responibility for these flaws and make their customers happy who made such an expensive purchase from frigidaire! We will never use their products in the future if nothing is done to fix this problem.

the repair man said you have to get these pucks called AFRESH which i'm yet to find. He said the "he detergent" MUST say "low sudsing" on the back or it is a knock off...said not to use Kirkland from Costco for sure as it is definitely not low sudsing...sai

d to use tide. The smell is from too much sudsing that can't escape as so little water is used. The AFRESH will get rid of the smell if you can find it.

This is a common problem with all front loaders. you need to manually clean the boot, rubber seal, with bleach and water but when done with that you need to put 1 1/2 cups of bleach in the soap dispeners, run a hot wash with no clothes after that run another rinse to be sure all the bleach is out of washer. inbetween washes, leave washer door open (best) or cracked if no room to leave it open

Standing water in front loader how to fix

More details about where, when, how (and how much), etc., might be useful.
I'd check easy things like the drain hose, to make sure it's not clogged. But the most likely thing is that the filter cup has gotten clogged or the drain pump is dead.

To check out: Get a wet/dry shop vac. Hook it up to the drain hose to suck the water out of the machine and save a lot of mess.
Remove the bottom front panel. The drain pump on my Duet is front center bottom... easy to get to. There's a plastic handle to unscrew if I recall correctly, which brings out a sort of plastic cup filter. You might find enough change to buy yourself a cup of coffee. Clean it out. If it wasn't really clogged up, the problem is either something stuck in a hose, or a failing/failed pump. Check the hoses first; if it's not them, I'd order a new pump.

It has a horrible odor. Also the little door on the left bottom front of the machine holds water. How do you keep the water (stinking) from standing in that area?

Front loaders are known for building up mold and the smell.
It's caused by using liquid detergent which is made from animal fat. Use powder. And use the minimum amount.
It's caused by using fabric softener. Dilute it 50/50 with water.
It's caused by the water remaining in the tub between washes. Leave the door open to allow it to dry. .
Pull the rubber door seal back and clean the mold off .
Affresh is recommended by some manufacturers. You run it through a wash cycle with it.

If the standing water is your fabric softener you'll have to clean it out to unstop it so it will drain.
Here's a DIAGRAM which may help with the cleaning.

I have a Maytag Model MHWE300VW11, Serial CSW5002000 and the clothes never smell fresh. There is always a mild sour smell. I always wipe out the washer and wipe all around the gasket in the tub and I...

you could look for a build up of muck- old soap powder etc around the main door rubber, there are places where the muck will collect. put your fingers right inside the door rubber as there are gaps that are hidden . this muck builds up and causes a horrible smell

Front load smells

There's usually about a gallon of residual water in the lower portion of the wash tub, drain line and pump between wash loads. This is NORMAL. If you are in the habit of leaving the door closed between washes, this water can become stagnant. If you are experiencing sour odors from the washer, the following link can give you some pointers on things to try to help keep the smell from coming back:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608512-getting_rid_front_loader_mildew_odor

Odors can also be caused by using the wrong type of detergent, causing soap scum build up, and from small articles of clothing caught in the rubber folds of the door bellow, or in the drain lines. Read through the link provided and let me know if you still have problems. I personally own a front loader and have followed this regiment for 9 years now with no odor or mildew problems. I hope this helps you.

Sour smell coming from inside whirlpool duet front loader

At the risk of being rude... it's not your washer that is causing the problem it's your washing habits. Jeff is "right on the money" when he stated water temperature is important. It's fine to use mainly cold water but it makes preventive maintenance very important. A hot soak or wash as your last cycle on was day will help dissolve and flush out residue. Just as important is the amount of detergent used and use of fabric softener. To remove odor from your washer and laundry the "splash area" just above the normal waterline must be cleaned. This is invariably the area of heaviest buildup of odor-causing residue. To clean the splash area add 1 or 2 caps of smelly washer cleaner to a full load of laundry and wash in a hot setting. The added bulk of the laundry will raise the water level to include the splash area. Intermittently pause to soak for more extreme cases.

Mold and bacteria in your door seal is a symptom of problems deeper inside the unit. All washers - not just Whirlpool, have this problem. The area of worst buildup is always on the inside of the plastic outer tub just above the normal waterline where suds and soiled water splash up and don't get rinsed out. To clean this problem area add 1 or 2 caps of smelly washer cleaner to a full load of laundry. The added bulk of the laundry will raise the water level to include the "splash area". Intermittently pause to soak more extreme cases.
