Question about LG 42PC5D Television

Open Question

LG 42PC5D, humming sound

The TV makes this humming/buzzing sound when it's on. It comes from the left side of the TV (where the front component inputs are). I actually exchanged it last night for another TV (same model). It's the same thing, not as loud though. A tech guy at Best Buy told me that it might be the built-in HDTV tuner, and that I can download an update from the internet and install it into the TV. Anyways, if anyone has some input it would be appreciated.

well i brought back the the TV and got the same exact one. But guess what, same problem. I looked around on the net, and I found people complaining about the same problem. Now I have a Hitachi, I don't remember the model # though. I payed extra $100, but it's a 1080i. Love the Hitachi, and I'm never buying an LG product again.

I am having the same problem with my 42pc5d. The sound seems to get a little louder when a darker image comes on the screen. Is there any solution to this?

Humming sound

Samsung states - A buzzing sound from your plasma TV is normal. It is caused by the electrical charges used to create the images on the screen. The buzzing, however, should not be so loud that you can hear it when the volume on the TV is set at normal levels. It is also important to determine the type of buzzing sound. A sound like a ground hum is completely normal. This buzzing can originate near the power cord connection or from the SMPS board position on the upper back of the TV. The buzz will be more audible as contrast increases on the screen, most notably when displaying an all white screen. If the buzzing sound is loud, you may have the Contrast set too high. Lower the contrast to reduce or eliminate the buzzing. You may also have loud buzzing if the rear of your Plasma TV is too close to a wall or other hard surface. Try moving your TV away from the wall until the buzzing is minimized. [1]
If the buzzing is at a higher frequency and resembles a crackling sound (like the sound of Velcro being pulled apart), and originates from the upper middle back of the TV, you likely have a failing SMPS board. Place a support call with Samsung to have the SMPS board replaced.FP-T5084 Have a known buzzing problem with a very simple fix.If the buzzing is coming from the left or right sides of the rear and the volume can be changed by pressing lightly on those locations, you are probably hearing the vibration of the grounding springs on the back panel. Call Samsung (or whoever) and have a technician confirm the problem. The easiest fix is to insulate the offending spring by applying some felt tape.

Buzzing/humming noise that increases as you raise volume. So loud that you can not even watch tv

Hello snow1525,

You may have a torn speaker element. This is usually the cause of buzzing noise in the sound, also you may have a bad capacitor in your audio section. This is what I would suggest doing as a test open the front bottom panel of your TV and visually inspect the speakers for signs of ripping and or tearing in the speaker element. If the element or elements are torn it may be possible to repair it with rubber cement or rubber paste just coat the tear with the rubber cement to hole the torn edges together and allow it to dry for two days before testing the sound. If the speaker elements are not ripped then the problem may be a bad capacitor either in the audio section (power supply) or in the filter block (usually attached to the speakers to separate bass and treble signal to the speakers.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Why is my car buzzing or humming after i turn the ignition off?

If it's buzzing when the car is moving. it could be the wheel bearing making the buzzing sound. it needs to be replaced. you can probably hear it as being inside the hood.

Buzzing intermittent

It sounds like the ice maker. If you don't have the water hooked up, and the ice sensor bar is in the down position, the ice maker assembly will attempt to make ice continuously.
Solution is easy: raise the ice sensor bar until it clicks in the up position. It will lock in this position, and the ice maker will not cycle anymore.

Home theater system connections

I have the same tv but my dvd surround is a toshiba, that shouldn't matter though. When I watch a dvd I go to component 2 which is where I have my dvd connected on the input of the tv when I watch tv and want the surround on I go to component 1 which is the tv input then on my dvd player I go to auxillary and I can watch tv in surround. I don't know the LG home theatre system but you should be able to select your inputs like between dvd, tuner, aux. Flip between them and you should get sound. hope this helps.
