Question about HP 2800DTN Business InkJet Photo Printer

3 Answers

I have an hp business inkjet 2800. It says to Install ink cartridges. They of course are brand new oem cartridges. If I hold down the x button on power up, the printer will come to ready, but anything printed is blank. Also when I try to do a "printhead cleaning". the printer does nothing, just constantly says "cleaning printheads", but it does not move or make any noise. Also in the diagnostic log is a 9002-0003 firmware error.

I did also replace the printheads and yes the tape was removed. Did not make a difference, printer still will not to the cleaning.

  • kroper Jul 27, 2009

Is there a reason why the printer will not do the printhead cleaning? Does that have something to do with the logic board also? I can not get the printer to accept the firmware update.

  • kroper Jul 27, 2009

I replaced the logic board on this printer and I am wondering if I was sent a bad board, or if maybe the problem is not in the board. It says there is no ink, even tho' they are brand new oem. what bothers me is that the "clean printhead" function does not do anything. Do you know what controls this function?

  • kroper Jul 29, 2009

Is it the logic board that recognizes the ink cartridges?

I AM WONDERING IF I RECEIVED A BAD BOARD???

I would like to know if the protective covering on the cartridges are removed before installing.

If yes try these steps
It is an internal hardware error message.

We will try a cold reset on the printer with only the power cable connected. By doing so, the printer settings will default to factory settings. Please note that after a cold reset the printer settings will default to factory settings and you may have to re-configure all the settings.

Press and hold the Return and Select buttons, then press Power button to turn on the printer.
If the firmware version is less than 'pmr2006a', try updating the firmware:

Firmware (pmr2006a)
ftp://sbdj:fwdownld@hprc.external.hp.com/bij2800/pmr2006a.exe

Steps to upgrade firmware:

Using the Copy/b command in MS-DOS

To upgrade firmware using the Copy/b command in MS-DOS, follow these steps:

1. Turn off the printer.
2. Connect parallel cable to the printer.
3. Turn on the printer with the Power, Resume, and Select button pressed simultaneously.
4. The LCD screen displays the Flashing mode message AWAITING DATA ON PARALLEL PORT.
5. Type the command in the command prompt:

Copy/b <firmware file> lpt1

6. Wait until the LCD front panel returns to the AWAITING DATA ON PARALLEL PORT message. Normally sectors erase and block program messages are displayed during the process.
7. Turn off and then turn on the printer.
Do not flash the printer in the ready mode.

If the issue persists The printer needs to be serviced as it is a hardware issue. I suggest that you visit our nearest HP Authorized Service Center

You may want to try this as well.

Try using your old printer cartridges on the machine. If they work then contact HP for a replacement of the cartridges.

I take it even config and demo pages are blank? If so then the logic board on the printer is toast and it will need to be replaced.

I would take the cable and try it on a different printer if that is possible. If it works on the other printer then it might be a driver issue.

I have included a page to where you can contact HP directly. I hope this helps. If it is still under warranty I would take advantage of that and have them replace it. Good luck.

If you have tried all those things then the next step is to call HP. I can't give you any other advice except what I have already offered. Again here is the link to contact HP directly. They should be able to tell you what is going on. I'm sorry I couldn't give you a solution to this. It has me stumped also.

If internal pages are printing fine, then you might have a cable or driver issue.

just to be sure abt whether ur logic board indeed is faulty..... download the updated drivers for ur printer.....

Inkjet printers do not like being unused, especially for years. The print head nozzles get clogged with dried ink when they are unused and even when you insert new ink cartridges the inks won't flow through the nozzles properly. The solution is to replace the print head.

My hp business inkjet 2800 prints blurry even after replacing heads and run heads alignment and cleaning procedure. Is there anything I could do to solve this issue? thanks

Forgive me for asking this, but roughly speaking about 80 to 95% of problems involving ink or toner are resolved by the following:
Are you using a factory new ink cartridge supplied by the manufacturer of the printer?
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.

I have not use the HP Inkjet 2800 for over 1 year. The first message reads" replace expired cartridge but when i check all the ink cartridge are nearly full. Please help! Matt S

Some HP cartridges actually have expiry dates on and they will not let you use them past this date. There is no way around this I'm afraid and you will have to purchase a new one. The use by dates are usually well in the future but sometimes if they are old stock or left for a while they can run out.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!

Hello,

View the user manual here. http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00449611/c00449611.pdf

go to page 60 and follow the instructions for replacing the ink cartridge, remember to have the printer on when you do.

Then go to page 62 and allign the print head automaticly following the instructions it gives.

This will re-callibrate the ink level on the printer and should read correctly for you.

Thanks
