Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

The images are not crisp - as if not fully in focus

To replace my existing 6 Megapixel point-and-shoot camera, I just purchased a Canon rebel 350D ( XT ) last week, that comes with a Canon kit zoom lens 18-55...I used AI as well as AI Servo setting to focus. The camera and the lens made the right noise to focus, which I verified in the viewfinder as well, to confirm. Howevers, when viewing the pictures as displayed, none of them appeared to be in focus. The results were nowhere near as sharp nor as crisp as the results I got from my point-and-shoot. Could you please give me some guidance ?

I guess this is an issue with the XTi. I got the same problem. One of the tip that help to get sharpen images is to set the sharpness under the picture style options. Remeber that pictures styles are a manual options only. On automatic setting, the camera will choose the settings by their own. Make some pictures and see them to set their sharpness. Another optios is to shoot an image, RAW type, edit it with canon software and then save back to camera as a new picture style profile. This option is also useful to define a sepia profile. The XTi don't have a sepia option.

I am having the same problem. I bought a Tamron zoom lens as an add on. This lens costs more than the camera and yet images are not as sharp as i would expect from such a highly touted camera. My Kodak Z740 point and shoot gives sharper prints. This is very frustrating. I bought Rebel for Dummies and still am having the same problem. Very frustrating

HiI suspect where brought repair shops were not capable of handle that problem. Usually focus problem doesn't occur unless you impact, drop, or from the beginning of your purchase which sometime canon product have problem of focus alignment. Well, If you have extra lens, then you can check it out that your body bad, or the lens bad. If you can check it out, I will help you more. (probably they don't have adjustment software for focus alignment)

There is a minimal focusing distance for all lenses. If you move closer to the subject than that distance then the camera won't focus on it. Check you lens manual for minimal focusing distance. It is 11 inches for Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 USM, for example.

Camera xsi rebel 12.5 megapixel won't focus with

Most entry level SLR cameras will struggle to focus in low light, especially with the kit lens. By rights the flash should popup and emit a flash pulse to help focus. This is called focus assist. You might have to consult the manual to check if this function is turned on or not.

The LCD does not come on when camera is turned on. How do I fix this.

The EOS 350D does not have a Live View function like the compact point and shoot cameras (Panasonic Lumix, Powershot, IXUS etc). You need to look through the viewfinder to compose your shot. The LCD only displays menu settings and images you have already captured (Play Button). Later models of EOS D-SLRs come with Live View but still doesn't have auto focus and you have to focus manually (eg EOS 450D, EOS 40D, etc)

I cannot use the lcd to take pics how do i use it

Canon EOS Rebel XT / 350D does not offer Liveview shooting option which newer cameras offer. It does not have contrast based auto focus system like the ones you see on point and shoot cameras either. LCD is used to review pictures taken or navigate through the menu system. Besides, LCD on the back of the camera is so small and lack the details anyway. You are better off using the small viewfinder it offers.

Veiw finder(eye piece ) out of focus pictures are fine

Use the diopter adjustment to refocus the viewfinder to your eye.

Point the camera at a sign or something with writing on and half press the shutter button to focus then move the little adjuster at the top right of the viewfinder until the image in the veiwfinder is in focus

I have just got EOS 400 D CANON DIGITAL CAMERA.

If you're talking about seeing the image prior to taking the picture, like on most point and shoot digital cameras, that is NOT a function available on the Digital Rebel, XT, or XTI.
