Question about Kenmore 62802 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Dried some clothes the other night and when I went out to take the clothes out the next morning the dryer was hot on the top and in the back of the control panel. I unplugged the dryer and took the top off, took the vent out of the back and got as much of the lint I could out of those areas. Some of the lint was black as if it had been burnt. In front of the dryer drum where the inner lint trap is located (once you open the door) I could reach down to the bottom of the dryer and pull out more lint, alot more lint! So today I tried the dryer again and after about 15 minutes on high setting it got hot again and started working fine. Or so I thought..... An hour or so later I felt the top again and had the same problem...HOT! Why is the dryer staying hot when it's not even on???!!!

More than likely, the motor centrifugal switch is stuck. You should be able to turn off the element with the timer control switch. If the timer switch is on and the dryer is not running, the element should be off, unless the motor contact is stuck closed. You will have to get to the motor and 'un stick' the contact. Its a bit tricky, you may need help.

The heater has failed and/or is shorting to the case. Remove the rear panel. The heater is on the right side, attached to the heater housing with two screws.

SOURCE: will not dry clothes.

Your heater element may be burnt or you may have to many bends in the vent pipe. also try a smaller load if you still have trouble let me know and I can give you a diagram and tell you things to check in order. You will need a volt meter to do the test and understand the dangers of operating voltage. Also Just for the heck of it try resetting you circuit Breaker for the dryer.

SOURCE: Clothing getting caught on lint

Probably has extra space between drum because the front felt guides on the drum have worn. This can be accessed by removing the front panel.

Dryer is heating but clothes are not drying.

Judging by the increasing moisture, your dryer vent is not venting the moisture to the outside. Check your vent pipe for blockages. I had a person a while back with a similar problem, and this person had a lint trap on the connection that went to the exterior of their house, so check that out as well.

Dryer gets hot, but not drying clothes

Check the following areas thoroughly to address this issue.

1. Venting
Make sure the dryer vent hose, as well as the rest of the vent duct, is not clogged.

Unless regular maintenance is performed, chances are there is a lot of lint accumulated inside the dryer. This might affect the drying time and could be a fire hazard. Make sure to have your dryer cleaned regularly. Because this might involve taking most of the dryer apart, it is recommended to have a qualified appliance repairman perform this task.

2. Thermostat
There are a couple of cycling thermostats inside the dryer. If one of them breaks down, it might affect the dryer's performance. Replace the defective thermostat.

3. Heating element
A heating element might only be partially burned out, in which case it would still work but will take longer time to dry the clothes. Replace the element if found defective.

4. Moisture Sensor
Most units will have a moisture or dryness sensor as well that will fail. inspect the sensor for faults. replace if necessary.

Either the control panel is defective or the dryer heating element is defective.

I have a Maytag Atlantis Gas Dryer that will turn on, rotate, but will not get hot and dry the clothes. A load of clothes in the afternoon, didn’t dry, tried again but didn’t dry – went to bed after putting on auto dry - next morning the dryer was still rotating and didn’t turn off. No hot air – only cold air.
