Question about Jura Capresso Impressa E8 Espresso/Coffee Maker

3 Answers

Capresso E8 - Error 8 - My Capresso E8 is 4 yrs old and has had occassional Error 8s that have now become quite common. After powering off for an hour or more, it will clear. From what I can read, it sounds like an o-ring problem. Have seen directions on lubricating the rings on an S9, but they don't appear as accessible on the E8. Suggestions?

Thanks for the response - It's past that issue, I believe. While it often will arise when the brew unit is full of grounds, it is start to creep up in other situations as well, including mid-cleaning cycle. In daily use, it generally will make it through one cup/cycle ok, and if that is all I do at that time, I'm successful at the next brewing as well. However, if I do two cups/cycles in a row, it almost always is getting stuck on the second one. I'm imagining the rings getting swollen from the heat/water, making them less cooperative in the second cycle.

Appreciate the first response, but I think the problem is beyond the grounds. I've had it occur even mid-cleaning cycle. If I make one cup at a time, it seems to function ok. If I make a second in succession, it invariably will bind up after the second and go to Error 8. I'm envisioning (correctly or incorrectly) the o-rings swelling or becoming less slippery from teh heat & water, causing them to bind on the second go-around.

I appreciate micromatikal's response, but before aborting (or paying Capresso $250 for a repair job), I was hoping there was an o-ring solution for this unit, as I've seen posted for others.

The problem is that the machine just gets clogged up and overheats a little. If you work on a coarse grind or clean it out each time that it happens the error should not show as much or at least you should get rid of it for the time being. Again basically the ground gum up the moving parts inside, and so it doesn't like the extra work and shuts off preventing any overheating and wrecking the machine. I hope this helps as there really isn't anything else that you can do to prevent the error from happening. I wish they would make stuff more like they used to.

I had this same unit and it had the exact same problems you, Capresso just gave the advice to keep rebooting the unit, after a while it was so bad that it would only work for one shot and it would error out. Apparently there is nothing you can do for the unit and Capresso doesn't really support it, I ended up getting rid of it =(.

I know thats probably not the answer you wanted to hear but just wanted to let you know.

Thanks
Tim

Malfunction 8 means that the brew unit can not get in the right position in the right time. This is usually because the brew unit is full of old coffee grounds. Try to shut down the machine for one day. The next day, take out the tray and clear out all coffee grounds inside the brew unit. Use your fingers and maybe a small towel. You can do this right away, but it is easier when everything`s dried up. When all this is cleaned up, start manually a Cleaning program. This should solve your problem.

Jura Capresso E8 keeps getting error code 8 over and over. I will clean, remove grounds etc, it will make a few espressos, then back to the error code. I can hear it struggling.

One of the problems that I see with these units is the Grinder setting. Sometimes the grinder is set too fine for Dark and Oily beans. This setting will ( can) clog up the brew screen after less than 10 cups are brewed. Also, running the cleaning tablets through to create a clean starting point may help you. Try turning the grinder to a slightly coarser setting and try that.
