Question about Refrigerators

Fridge/Freezer working sometimes. Starts and stops

Came home to a warm fridge and freezer last night. Took the kickplate off and turned a red knob and the unit turned back on. Seems like the unit will cool for a while, stop, then start cooling again. In the process the food gets warm and spoils.

Need you to check the compressor to see if too hot to touch. If so unplug and don't leave it plugged in until we find the problem. This could be start capacitor, start relay, overload or a bad condenser or evaporator fan motor. Like to know he model number to help you better, Let me know, Sea Breeze

Hello I have Had my side by side for 5 years now Model # MSD2351KES. Sometime during the night I guess it stopped working and is not getting cold. What could it be? or is it just time for a new one?

Is the freezer still freezing even though the fridge is warm? if so yayyyyy! siimple fix.... hopefully!

Refrigeration systems are designed to last forever as they are hermetically sealed so your first place of interest will be to first let the fridge sit for a day to possibly defrost. Let me explain. There is a little drain from your freezer to your drain/evaporation pan in the base of your fridge that carries water resulting from the defrost cycle. If this drain which is the size of a large drinking straw, becomes plugged, the water will build up, freeze and block the flow of air from the freezer to the fridge thus resulting in a warm fridge. You just have to find and unplug the line.

Now... IF the freezer is not freezing then you probably just need a new defrost timer. This timer is necessary to clear the system of ice on a regular basis and when it is time to replace it it will stick on defrost. Defrost timer is located under the fridge and should be readily accessed. and adjustable. try to turn the defrost dial adjustment and the fridge should start again... if it does you will still need to replace it but now you can do it yourself without the service charges and possible dishonest opinion of " You need a new fridge!" Hope I helped!

American fridge/freezer - fridge stopped cooling, freezer side ok

Have you pulled out the refrigerator and cleaned or used a vacum cleaner to get out the dirt and dust off the back of the coils, or if the coils are underneath, you need to get an inexpensive appliance brush for fridge, and clean the coils under the fridge, pull off the panel on the front bottom of the fridge, get a flash light and look to see if the coils are covered in dust....may just need to vacum and use appliance brush underneath...this should be done at least one a year, you will notice your fridge running much better and cooling back to normal.......hope this helps......

Fridge is warm and freezer is cooler than normal

Possible bad defrost timer. Locate timer underneath the fridge and manually turn the knob. Element should come on and start defrosting. If defrosting starts then the timer is bad. Check also the element and thermostat.

Whirlpool freezer and the refrigerator.

Chances are your defrosting clock is stuck or quit working.
The clock works as timer to set time for defrost, at which time it stops the compressor, and turns a heater tube next the cooling coils to melt ice. It depends on your expertise if you want to try replacement,as most replacement are universal, and some rewiring is sometime involved. The clock is usually in front at the bottom behind the removable grill, or in the back. It looks like a square box with a dial that has a one way turn knob. To check use flat screwdriver to slowly turn dial (you can only turn one way) until the compressor stops, then wait to see if compressor starts back on it's own (it might take as long as 30 min.).
If it does not start it's bad and need replacement. Of course you can turn dial again until it starts again so you can use fridge. If it does start it could still have been the problem where the clock got stuck, and you got it going again by turning the knob, but let it run. If it works for a while and then have the same problem again the replace clock.
Hope this helps you
