So I recently got an R4 Deluxe from deal extreme. I had an Micro sd card (4gig) I downloaded all the proper updates and what not. But every time I put it in my DS it just says "Loading" on the top screen.
Does this mean it's not going to work and I just have to get a real R4?

Stuck on Loading Screen
This usually indicates that the software kernel on the micro sd memory card has become corrupted. It can also happen if the micro sd memory card is overloaded with games, music and video files etc. The solution is to reinstall the kernel software on the micro sd card and ensure the micro sd memory card is not overloaded. Leave about 25% memory free.
download SDformatter and format the sd card with that, place all the files on there, none in folders..
The original R4 card only works with Micro-SD cards up to 2GB in size. To use Micro-SD cards up to 32GB, you need to buy the newer R4 SDHC card or a Nintendo DSi comaptible card. Check out R4 Cards / R4 DS Cards from DSCardWorld.com or NDS-Gear.com (NDS-Gear is probably better if you live in Europe or Canada as their shipping's slightly better internationally).
Im not 100% sure about this...I own a R4 myself. What I do notice if you use the wrong type of SD Card(Anything above 2GB) or use it in the wrong type of R4(SDHC Kernel in a Non-SDHC Card) It tends to get stuck at that loading screen.
Sometimes you can remedy this by taking the R4 out and the sd card out and using a air can or blowing on the parts in between(inside the DS, Inside the R4) and try it and it will sometimes fix that. Also a corrupted transfer of the kernel or a bad kernel can do that too.
You should check if the R4 card is actually R4 SDHC, because thefirmware of R4DS is not compatible with it. If it is SDHC, go to thiswebsite http://rs320.rapidshare.com/files/140174805/English-1.21.zipto download the firmware for your card. If there are any roms on it,you should save them somewhere else, for you have to format the cardfirst (do this in windows by going to 'this computer', thenright-clicking on the SD card from your R4 and then select 'format'.Warning! Never select 'quick format'! This could do damage). Now yourcard is completely empty. Copy the files you just downloaded andunzipped to the card (5 files; _system_, moonshl, _DS_MENU.DAT,_DS_MENU.INI and _DS_MSHL.NDS). Now put the SD card in the R4 and itshould work properly :) I had the same problem, and I have just solvedit *grin*. I hope this was useful.
1- If you are using the same card in both cards and only work in the R4 deluxe then your R4 SDHC need different system files to work.
2- If you are using different cards with different system files for each one then the files would be corrupted, download them again from R4 site; or your SD memory need to be formatted to fat32 for your SDHC R4.
