Question about Kenmore 64802 Top Freezer Refrigerator

Open Question

Low cold air flow from air diffuser

I had side by side Kenmore refrigerator mod. 106.59597990. Two weeks ago temperature in fridge changed to 66F. In freezer it was OK - 5F.
A technician, that I invited, found ice in air diffuser and melted it by steamer. This week I had the same problem. Temperature in fridge was again 68F. I used head dryer and steamer to clean diffuser. Now fridge temperature is 56F (after 24 hours). I checked rubber gasket. It is OK.
How may I fix this problem?
I ordered a new air diffuser (part #2209751).
Will it help?
Is there any procedure how to replace old air diffuser?

There is a fan inside the freezer which circulates cold air through the air diffuser and then through the return duct at the bottom of the fridge. This fan may not be working. You should be able to hear it when you open the freezer door. If you cannot hear the fan going with the door open, keep the door open and press the button that switches the internal light off. The fan should run. If no fan running in freezer test for supply to fan. The fan may be faulty or the thermostat which is in line with the fan could be faulty.

SOURCE: Refrigerator does not cool

If the refrigerator cooling is poor, it may be a problem with the thermostat, the compressor, or the evaporator fan. If ice is accumulating at the back of the fridge, that can also be a reason for poor cooling.

See aso the links below for a more detailed explanation:

A refrigerator or freezer that is cooling, but cooling poorly, may have a problem in one of several areas.
Poor cooling is often the result of a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils or a condenser that is clogged with dust, lint, and dirt.
You can't see these coils without removing a panel on the inside of your freezer. A sure sign that there is a build-up is the presence of any frost or ice build-up on the inside walls, floor, or ceiling of the freezer.
Such a frost build-up usually indicates a problem in the self-defrosting system or damaged door gaskets.
Watch its operation more closely to see if any same symptom.

The defrost heaters are bad. Take the inside back panel out. Take a hair dryer and defrost the back where you took the panel off. You will find a set of coils under the ice. Inside those coils there will be a heater. Either one made of the same thing oven elements are made of or they will be glass with a coil running through it. You can inspect them and most of the time you will be able to see either the glass broken or the coil inside the glass. Or if it's made out of what a ovens is made of you will see where it is burned into. After defrosting, you can put the panel back in and turn the fridge back on. It will work normaly for around three days before it starts frosting back up. This will save your food and give you enough time to either get the part to fix or have someone to come out to fix. Word of advice. If you have someone to fix it, be sure to defrost it at least 24hrs befroe they come because it's iced up they will have to defrost it and as you will see. It takes time and they will charge you by the hour to do it. Good luck

Normally when the refrigerator side freezes, it's because of an air flow problem. It can be caused from a stuck or defective air diffuser, a control board or sensor if this model has them or a thermostat, if it has one. You can check the temperature in the freezer section, to see if it's getting too cold (below zero). To check the temperature, place a thermometer between some packages. Air temperature is not a good check. If it is too cold, it can also cause the fridge section to get too cold. Usually, adjusting the control, to a slighlty warmer setting, will correct this.

Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator too cold

On a fridge freezer only the fridge temperature is monitored. In a cold location the fridge might not even need cooling and the freezer would get too warm but the thing won't care.

If the fridge sensor sees it as too warm then it will keep the motor running and the first thing to get really cold is the freezer.

Remember the freezing part is not temperature controlled ion a fridgefreezer.

Frezzer is fine but fridge is warm

See if cold air is coming out of the air diffuser top-back freezer side of fridge. A common problem is a bad air diffuser assembly. Sometimes it may freeze closed and break when it tries to cycle. The freezer usually works fine.
