Question about HP LaserJet 4250n Printer

2 Answers

When printing a bold word at the top of the document, it then reprints that word in faint smuges every 3.75" down the page, in the center and is only about 1/2" wide. We replaced the toner and it went away for a very short time and is back again.

We purchased and tried the cleaner kit and still have the smuge every few inches down the page

  • dmfgdp Jul 23, 2009

We replaced the ink cartridge about a week ago.

I tried everything on the last email however I could not figure out how to take off the left side panel to get access to the sensor. Any ideas?

  • dmfgdp Jul 23, 2009

I already responded to this email earlier stating we tried everything however we do not know how to remove the left cover unless we break the plastic so we have not tried adjusting this senser

  • dmfgdp Jul 23, 2009

What is the printhead? The only thing we replaced in one unit that consists of the toner and a small green roller in it, all one unit, so we do not know what the printhead is

  • dmfgdp Jul 23, 2009

Is that the green roller that came in the new toner cartridge? It is only 1 week old and we only replaced the old one because of this problem. So what is the ods that the new cartridge ended up doing the same thing after 1 week or are we talking about a different roller and how to get access to it.

    Thanks,

You need to replace the printhead, not just the toner. A bad printhead will cause this to happen. Let me know how this turns out.

Alright, sorry its a laser printer, for some reason thought it was an inkjet, I just answered a similar problem. Anyway, if the bold words are spaced down the page evenly, then it sounds like your roller is having problems as the spacing is probably the same distance and the circumference of the roller. Replacing the roller should solve your problem.

No, I mean the big the roller across the whole unit where the ink prints onto if there was no paper in there.

You can get a toner and ink cartridge cleaning kit. I still believe that the toner just needs cleaning. They do have high failing rates and tend to need replacement often.

When was the last time you changed the ink cartridge? Does your HP have
an option to clean the inkheads? Just a couple of things to try.

Also try running a pice of card stock
paper through it. On most of the older HP 's their is a cork like pad
in the papper feed and chuncks of it break off with usage and sometimes
drag on the paper till it doesnt feed corectly. Make sure the paper
    feed is clear.

The Media Type setting in the driver is very important in determining
how ink is distributed on the page. If the Media Type setting is set to
something different than the paper loaded in the printer, both color
reproduction and quality can be affected. Under Windows, follow the
instructions below to change the paper type:

    1. From the application you are printing from, click File, and then click Print.

    2. Click 'Properties' in the Print dialog box.

Note: Depending on the application software, 'Properties' may be displayed as 'Preferences'.

    3. On the Main tab, select the desired paper type in the 'Media Type' section, using the pull-down menu.

*Items listed in the printer properties may differ slightly by model and driver version

Might have to run the "clean printhead" utility for your printer?

Otherwise, check the alignment of your printer's paper feeder - make
sure the source paper stack is "straight" and the individual sheets
aren't somehow sticking together (IOW, remove the paper stack and
"riffle" the edges to separate the sheets). This is a common problem
with paper in a humid area or if it's been sitting in the printer's
    paper supply location for awhile.

Ok, another update. Take the left panel off and there is some kind of
a sensor or something on the end of what I think is the Y-Axis shaft.
It sits on a bracket that has a clear cap on the end of it. Behind the
plastic cap that pops out there is a flat disc that spins when the page
is fed through. Put a little pressure (pushing in) on the bottom
sensor and print a test page the page comes out clear. Take a
small driver and tighten the screws down on the sensor (2 screws on
the pick-up) to try to make sure the disk does not rub the inside of
    the sensor

Why does my HP Laserjet 1020 leave faint black horizontal smuges on my documents when I print them?

Sounds like the PC Unit or Cartridge Unit (if the cartridge has the PC drum attached). Probably have to replace that or maybe the cleaner wiper if the printer has one. This is a very common problem on all laser printers however, some printer makers are better at it than others. Lexmark is very good.

Samsung CLP-500 output problems

i have found that removing the toners, and shaking them side to side, while keeping them horizontal, which seems to spread the toner for even distribution. This can sometimes fix the problems with fading prints. hope it helps.
Margins i think might be a problem with the wysiwyg of the program, some don't do it well, but also excel in particular has a shrink to fit page option, you may find the percentage not at 100%. you can also copy an excel table to word and print from that if it is driving you nuts.

Dirty printing job

Are they lines from one edge to the other in a straight line. Or is it faint reprint across the page?
Thin lines would most likely be a bad drum or cleaning blade.
If it is faint reprint it is the heat roller in the fuser.
