Question about Maytag MSD2651 HE Side by Side Refrigerator
I have the same problem. It is ice buildup around the evaporator fan that begins as a buzzing (the fan blades hitting the advancing "glacier"), which ultimately stops the fan and then the freezer/fridge stop cooling. Just pull the lower sheet metal from the inside rear of the freezer (need to remove some screws from upper sheet also) and chip the ice away. I've got a question in to Maytag now to see how to prevent this from recurring. I've had to take the thing apart 3 times in 2 years.

It seems the fan in the bottom tapping on something that has blown under or it may be the compressor. Take a look under the unit to be sure that the under side is free of debris and dust.
its possible since the noise stops in 5 seconds, it may also be the starting capacitor or the starting circuit that starts the compressor. The starting capacitor circuit gives the compressor a 'kick' to get it going and then shuts off. Usually in about 5 seconds.
all the best
