My mower will crank but the engine won't turn over and start. This happened after killing the engine hitting an unseen prarie dog hill of hard dirt.

It's possible the engine suffered internal damage when the blade struck the dirt. A sudden impact like that can cause a connecting rod to snap. If you're handy, pull out a spark plug and try to spin the motor over by hand. If you stick a screwdriver into the spark plug hole and it moves up and down (in or out) that cylinder is probably ok. You can do that for all cylinders depending on the engine size. Can you provide any details as to what type of mower, or what engine it has?

Where are the Spark Plugs located in a 2004 Lincoln Navigator?

Hello, first how many miles do you have on this Lincoln? On that 4.6 L V8 engine they do have spark plugs but each plug has it's own spark coil located on a long rubber plug. You will see four little coils on each side of the engine. There will wires going in to the individual coils. There will be a bracket the holds the coils in place with a small 9 or 10 mm nut. There will wires going in to the individual coils. There will be a bracket the holds the coils in place with a small 9 or 10 mm nut. Remove the nut, and gently pull on each coil. There a long rubber plug that fit in each spark hole. These rubber plugs are about 4 1/2 to 5 inches long.

Before removing the plug use an air hose with 50 to 60 lbs of pressure to blow each spark plug hole out which might have foreign object in the hole. Why, if you remove the spark plugs, and there is foreign material in that plug hole. Guess what, that stuff will fall into the combustion camber.

Then you will really have some problem. How fix if stuff fall into the combustion camber.

Squirt small amount of oil in the combustion camber, unplug all the coils and clear out there plug hole. Now remove all the spark plugs. Now, you can crank the engine and will the little amount in that cylinder that has the junk in it. The oil will wet the foreign debrie, and blow it out the spark plug hole. Then use a clean rag with with some oil it with a long screw driver to clean that spark plug hole Be careful that don't push the foreign material back into the combustion camber. Do this several time with little amount of oil.

Now, you can install the new spark plugs. On the spark plugs threads use some anti-shiz grease. Why squirt oil into the combustion camber? The oil is used to seal the rings on the piston to increase the cylinder compression. Just a small amount goes a long ways. GB...stewbison

When u replace a fuse and keep blowing, it means the appliance using that fuse is faulty and should be checked or the wires after it are naked and causing a short circuit. When a nut falls into a spark plug hole, u can stil fit ur plug but it wil cause damage to the piston and bore lining when u run the engine, it has to be removed first.

On a 1997 mercedes sl320 once the top cover is removed and the spark plugs are in sight, is the plug replacing pretty simple?

it's can do, but you must have a good knowledge to do it, i will guide you how to do it, first get right spark plugs for your particular car, it's very impotent to get right spark plugs, otherwise it will get damaged engine, first remove top cover of engine, then very carefully remove spark plug lids from spark plug, keep in mind don't pull spark plug lids form wire it will brake easily, you must pull lids from plastic holder which is in side the head cover, after remove lids have good look inside holes before remove spark plugs, if you can see any dirty or dust inside hole between plug and housing you must remove that otherwise wen you remove spark plugs it will fall inside the combustion chamber, use high presser air to blow it, then you need right spark plug box for remove spark plug after remove the spark plugs get one spark plug to spear parts shop, and ask right one for that model, wise salesmen know how to find the right one, don't use any duplicate cheep spark plugs, even new spark plugs check the spark gaps all are the same, if you see any one deferant than outhers need to be correct the gap using piller Gage mus be use 33 lip on your piller Gage to set gap, then first your spark plug fix in to the plug box spanner and lowly insert in to the plug hole and tight it, don't let spark plug to fall in to the hole when you insert it, if it fall in, it can be change spark gap in your new plug, spark plug tighten tourque is 25nm, don't tight toomuch or don't let box spanner to angle when you tight, keep hold middle of hole when you tight it, it can crack ceramic part of spark plug, if one spark plug cracked it will make misfiring the engine, after replace all spark plugs clean lids hole using rags if its wet or oily, then install and press it in to the spark plug hole you can hear locking noise wen it get right. be careful don't mix up lids better keep mark all the lids if not numbers in lids, is this information helped you?

How do i change spark plugs on 1999 saturn sl1

The plugs are connected to the 4 plug wires you see on the front of the engine when you raise the hood. You need a deep socket, or a spark plug socket, to get over the plugs down in the depressions. Go to Walmart or Kmart and get 4 plugs, they have a book or a little computer which you can use to find which plug fits your car. Or you can go to a car parts store and they will find them for you and make sure the gap is right. If you have access to an air compressor pull off the plug wire and blow pressurized air down around the plug to avoid having dirt fall into the hole after the plug is removed. Then unscrew the plug and replace it with a new one properly gapped. Do them one by one so you do not mix the wires up. If the plug wires have never been replaced you may want to do that too, they pull off the coil the same way they pull off the plugs. Do them one by one as well so as to avoid mixing them up.

How do I change spark plugs in a 2006 Daewoo Kalos? There are grommets around the plug leads which will not come out without using excessive force [which I am reluctant to do]. Note that this is the same...

the grommets seal the lead from any water getting in and around the plug and creating a miss in the engine, you will have to use a little force to move them as they are a reasonably snug fit.
Once the lead is removed use compressed air to blow out any dirt that may have entered the area around the plug as this will fall into the cylinder when the plug is removed. you will have to use a spark plug socket with the rubber in the top to grip the plug as it is difficult to get the plug out unless you have long nosed pliers as they are down in the hole

Changing spark plugs

remove the spark plug leads to the plugs taking note of where they came from, blow air around the plug to remove any dirt etc that might be around the spark plug hole, if this is not done dirt may enter into the cylinder and cause damage in the future.
Remove the plug and disguard, take new plug and check the gap at the end of the plug to specifications adjust if needed.
insert the plug back into the spark plug hole and tighten to specs, connect the spark plug lead to complete the job

2004 Toyota Tundra spark plug

The causes for spark plugs leaving the cylinder head are as follows:
1. The threads in the cylinder head were compromised, as in cross-threading.
2. The spark plug, when replaced, was not tightened down properly (like only 2-3 threads in)
3. A combination of the above.

Whe the plugs are fully seated in the cyl heads, and are at the proper torque, it would be extremely RARE for the plug to be jettisoned by the compression of the pistons. You only have roughly 175-185 PSI compression, this will NOT defeat the retention of the threads. Look at the hole in the head...How may threads are damaged? If it is just the end of the hole, the plugs was not in "all of the way". If ALL of the threads are bad, the plug was inserted improperly, and damaged the threads in the head. Rethreading (a "heli-coil") will correct you condition, if properly done.
Hope this helps.

Problem, Sinead

No - your valve cover gasket is leaking and allowing oil to fall down into the spark plug holes (I'm assuming that you're seeing oil on the plugs when you pull the spark wires off). Is that where you're seeing the oil? If so, you need to change the valve cover gasket (very very easy to do yourself - don't pay someone to do it).
