Why did the L-1011 fail while the DC-10 made a quite hit?

The DC-10 had some big accidents but it was a big hit but Lockheed didn't sell as many L-1011s as the DC-10. Why was it like it?

What are the best aviation subjects to start an aviation website with?

Really depends who you think your audience is. Lay people may just want to know how a plane flys or why certain things happen on commercial flights. Pilots may want to learn about skills/ratings they havent acquired yet, recent incidents.

Are CVRs ever used to check if pilots are following procedures in the absence of an incident/accident?

No, they only record a limited amount of data and voice typically the last 30 minutes. They are constantly overwritten.

What happens if a private Cessna 172 pilot tries to land at big airports like JFK or O'Hair when there is no emergency?

It's quite permissible to do so, however a general aviation pilot in a low performance plane should be ready for fast instructions and quite a bit of maneuvering to stay out of the way. The best time to do it would be at night. Here's a youtube video of one doing it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKvWn317tpU

Is being a locomotive engineer more difficult than being a commercial airline pilot?

The demand for pilots within the next 10 years will be extremely high globally. You are correct, not many train engineer schools out there but as far as difficulty each have their bulk share of responsibilities for safe operation.

Is it worth to buy a 30 year old Cessna to build time?

Older planes are usually very good purchases, IF they have been well maintained over the years. Airplanes have to be inspected annually by an A&P mechanic with an Inspection Authorization so they are usually very well maintained. Any purchase should include having an A&P mechanic review the airframe and engine logs and evaluation of the plane, including looking at how many hours the engine has since overhaul and checking compression. I had a 1966 Cherokee 140 for several years and finally sold it when I bought my current Experimental aircraft (a BD-4). It helps a LOT if you can get an A&P license and maintain you own plane though.

Serious flat earth question considering avivation?

I recently browsed a forum where this was debated by the FE believers vs normal OE people. (Obloid Earth).
The FE'ers simply believe that photos, videos etc are hoaxes. :))

Why does the USA uses companies like Boeing and Lockheed to make there military aircraft and other military eqipment?

The cost in designing, developing, and testing an aircraft is staggering!!! Defense contractors as those you mention have extremely strict regulations to follow regarding export control and no equipment is sold to a foreign government without the express approval of the US gov't.

Am I too late to become an airline pilot?

Many colleges offer flight training. Two that come to mind are UND and University of Cincinnati but there are many others. You might look into that as most airlines want a degree also. Regional airlines pay is garbage but you get raises pretty quickly as your time builds.

You need a college degree and then join the military or go to a military college like the USAF Academy. They will put you through all the pilot training.
