You do not mention the type of radio you have, so our answer will be rather generic. The "MON" button is the monitor button. It is used to temporarily shut off your interference eliminator (aka private line, PL, tone code), so you can hear if anyone else is speaking on your frequency. This is to be used as a courtesy to other radios users in your area which are on the same frequency. (Sadly, people are usually not so polite.) If your radio does not have the PL turned on, this button will do nothing, as you will already be hearing the radio traffic on your frequency.

On some models the "MON" button has both a long and a short press function, typically the short press is the temporary monitoring of the freq., while the long press is "sticky monitor" which will hold you in the monitor mode until pressed again, or the radio is turned off and then back on.

As for the other buttons, they can be programmed to a variety of options including high/low power, tight/loose squelch, scan/nuisance channel delete, battery indicator, volume set, and a few others. The only way to know for sure what it is programmed to is to have the radio readout by a dealer. Or an educated guess, as some would be obvious by their function.

I have three walkie talkies... Motorala CLS 1110... 2 of them are on FREQ 3 and the other is on FREQ 2.... how to i change the one on FREQ 2 to FREQ 3???

With the radio turned OFF, hold in the PTT and the MON, while turning the radio on. Continue to hold the PTT and MON until the radio stops making noise. You are then in programming mode and can use the menu button to walk through the stages of programming. Use the PTT to change the settings, and the MENU to lock it in.

How do i change the frequency and or channel

Here is a link to the user guide:

The instructions for getting into programming mode are on page 18. A synopsis is this:
1) Hold in the PTT button and the MON button while turning on the radio. Continue to hold them in until the radio is no longer making noise.
2) Press the Menu button one time. This is your Freq. Use the plus or minus button to change the freq. Press the menu button to lock in your selection.
3) The next number is your Code. Use the same method to select your code and lock it in.
4) Continue through the menu, making your selections according to the user guide. When you are at the end of the programming cycle the radio will emit a different chirp. When this occurs, shut of the radio and turn it back on normally. You are done programming.

Best regards.

I have a motorola t5720 and when I hit the mon key it makes no noise. I also do not have my manual. What do I do?

The monitor MON button may or may not emit noise. On some models of radios it will have "white noise" when pressed. On others it is silent. MON is used to be "polite" and see if anyone is talking before you transmit, assuming you have the interference code eliminator turned on. It temporarily shuts off your CODE. If your CODE is set to zero, you would never need the MON button, as you will hear all radio traffic anyway.

For simple operation of your radio, set all your radios identical to one another with the same frequency, code and Qt filter (if any). Use the Push-To-Talk (PTT) button to transmit, and release it when you are done talking to listen for a reply from a fellow radio user.

Best regards.

I need a radio code for a 2000 mitsubishi galant

Carefully take the front panel off that surrounds the radio and temperature buttons, it will snap straight out. Wiggle the radio out about two inches, it is a tight fit. Get the serial number off the radio. It is on a sticker on the top, left side. Call a Mitsubishi dealer with the serial number. They will want proof of ownership, so have the title ready. After putting in the four digit serial number, hit the cd button and that enters it.
The code is also written on an antitheft card that comes with the car and may be written in the owners manual in one of the back pages.

Dont know what the buttons on the front of the Motorola Radius sp50.

Hello Peedi Krack,

There are two buttons on the front of the Motorola SP50.

MON - This key is a Monitor button. It temporarily disables the squelch control so you can hear any muted or weak signals being sent on the channel. This enables you to ensure the channel is clear before you transmit.

OPT - This button controls Optional functions that might be programmed into the radio, such as channel scan.

Additionally your radio might also have a DTMF keypad (similar to a telephone keypad) depending on which version of the SP50. If installed, the DTMF keypad would be used for signaling and controlling devices over the air.

Best Regards,

Go Ahead. Use Us.
