Question about Municipality

Open Question

Why do we act like women are powerless at preventing their own rape?

There is this notion that there is absolutely nothing a girl can do to avoid being raped. It doesn't matter what she wears, how she acts, whether she led a guy on, whether she's had multiple sex partners before, whether she's drunk, etc. But it DOES matter. If you are drunk, you are more vulnerable and less likely to recognize threats in time. If you develop a reputation for being a slut, you draw unwanted attention from rapists. They want an easy target. If you dress and act like a slut, guys will make assumptions. If you lead a guy on for your own enjoyment, he might get angry, or he might feel entitled. If you go to a party alone, you won't have anyone there to rescue you from dangerous situations. If you hang out at frat parties, you are surrounding yourself with guys who are most likely to rape. Now, you're thinking: Why can't we just teach guys not to rape. AND WE SHOULD. Further, when guys do rape, they should be LOCKED UP. NONE of the above are intended to condone rape, or blame the victim. But as a girl, you can REDUCE the likelihood of being a victim. You're also thinking: 80 year old nuns get raped. yes they do....but not as often. If you take the above precautions, your chances of being raped aren't zero...but they are SIGNIFICANTLY reduced. Same way, if you go into a bad part of town alone while looking lost and flashing expensive jewelry, you're more likely to get robbed. But Folks, I don't know why there are so many comments saying that I am blaming the victims, when I went VERY far out of my way to make ABUNDANTLY clear that I do NOT believe that. I also am not saying men are like animals. I am saying that there will always be SOME men who make the decision to rape. And who will they go after? That's right. VULNERABLE WOMEN. So why make oneself vulnerable, even if you aren't at fault?
