Question about Law Enforcement & Police

Open Question

Can a judge legally throw someone out of court for not being dressed appropriately?

I'd like to preface this question by stating that I work the night-shift, and in slow business hours I like to be comfortable when working. My job doesn't require a dress code, I'm a cashier and can wear whatever I want. I always wear gym shorts and flip-flops with socks on cause that's what I'm most comfortable in. So to get right into things, I drove straight from work to court simply because I don't have enough time to go home and change and I don't think I'm legally obligated to dress a certain way in front of a judge. Sure it's the more desirable polite respectful thing to do, but being that I'm half-dead and just wanna get court over with, I decided over my better judgement and risked it anyway. Long story short, after I waited 2 hours for my name to be called, the judge told me to leave and to come back at 1pm dressed appropriately. I respectfully asked the judge if he could reschedule it for a later time as I would be half-dead not getting my sleep and having to work the next night. He angrily just kept repeating 1pm be back here and disrespected me and made me feel like less of a person cause of what I wore. I pleaded with him a second time to please reschedule and that it'd be really hard for me to make it back 5 hours later. He then like a true power hungry douche said that if I said another word he'd hold me for contempt of court, I looked at him blankly, walked away and said 'have a good day' he then said 'Welp that's a $100' He waived it in the end, but still..

You have already likely answered your own question by now via experience. You did things that were *******, but you know that. What will happen? Can't say as it depends on the evidence the police are able to gather. From there the prosecutor decided if they will take the case to trial or not. If they do, a plea agreement could be reached, or you take your chance in court. Either way be sure you have a lawyer.

Police do have discretion, so it is plausible that it never gets to the prosecutor.

Can someone tell me what is the difference between a jail and prison?

At the most basic level, the fundamental difference between jail and prison is the length of stay for inmates. Jails are usually run by local law enforcement and/or local government agencies, and are designed to hold inmates awaiting trial or serving a short sentence. Often "short" is designated as a misdemeanor conviction versus a felony. Prisons, on the other hand, are typically operated by a state government or the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). These are designed to hold individuals convicted of more serious crimes, typically any felony.
