Question about Canon Cameras

1 Answer

I have a brand-new Canon PowerShot A2100 IS that is having lens problems. The lens didn't retract when I turned it off. When I turn on, all it say is LENS ERROR, RESTART CAMERA. When I restart it, it's the same thing. I'm on vacation w/ my daughters in Quebec City... the last place I want to have it malfunction! Thanks

In the compartment where the batteries go, there is another smaller watch battery, pull out the watch battery, and re install, and that should fix your lens error, I have a Canon powershot A700 that was getting the same error code and it works just fine now!!

How do I fix a Canon Powershot A4000 is camera that won't turn on?

This problem can arise if the lens retraction is malfunctioning. If the lens won't extend then the camera can't go through the power on process. You'll need to weigh up the cost of repair to replacement.

Lens error, restart camera

Lens error is usually caused by mechanical faults concerning lens assembly. The lens cannot extend or retract fully, the error is detected and lens error is returned.
Sometimes this can be fixed playing with the lens during extraction or retraction to help the lens asset getting back to normal.
More often the camera lens must be disassembled and re-assembled by a technician to fix the problem.

Lens will not retract

I had a Canon IXUS II do this.

Unfortunately it required a new lens which the repairer could not supply due to its age. The repairer replaced the camera for the same cost with much more recent model! The repair cost was £70 plus postage. (This was 4 years ago now when a new camera would have cost over £199).

If its under warrantee use it - Sadly it might be cheaper at todays prices to replace it instead of have it fixed.
