How long was a us passport valid for in 1972 & 1973?

• A valid passport.
• An expired passport (domestic flights only up to two years after expiry)
• Valid EU or Swiss national identity card.
• Valid driving licence (Full or Provisional are accepted)
• Valid armed forces identity card.
• Valid police warrant card/badge.

If it is still in date it is still valid
but it also depends on how many pages are left and how much the photo looks like you now
Best bet would go to a local passport checking office or service

Normally one can return to Mother land if citizen even if there os less than 6 months validity on passport.

The 6 month rule only applies if you are a foreign national visiting the US...
1. If you are a US citizen visiting another country but returning to the US prior to the expiration date, then no need to worry about this rule.

The rule is to help you from being deported because your passport expires during a visit.

if the 24th of March and 13th of April are in the same year, preceding the mid-August expiration date - it is valid for travel.

Your passport should be valid for flying through the 19th. However, here is the Contact Us page for United Kingdom passports (http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/agencies-public-bodies/ips/contact-us/). You want to check the requirements for your passport validity in both the destination and origin country (especially if you are not a citizen of the origin country): in general, you will find that the destination country will want you to have at least a passport with a minium of 6 months validity remaining.
