Use Sony ICF-C1IPMK2 in Europe

I want to use my Sony ICF-C1IPMK2 device in Europe, so I have to change the power adapter that comes with the device, to convert 220V AC to required DC. I've tried it with a 500mA adapter with voltages from 3V to 12V. It work fine with voltages over 6V. What should be the correct voltage for this device?

There is nothing written on the adapter. That's why I'm not sure about the correct settings.

A transformer type (Linear Mode Power Supply) AC to DC power adapter with a 9.V nominal output, measures about 12.V without load when tested with a multimeter. A power adapter with a nominal output of 7.5 V, measures a little over 9.V. Considering a number of people across different forums reported the adapter's measured power output as 12.V, I think the nominal rating of the AC to DC adapter should be 9.V. However, keep away from Switch Mode Power Supplies.

Closed minded Sony doesn't display this information on their power adapter. And radio displayes 120V input voltage, yeah right. (adapter is hard corded to the radio)
For myself, fu¼&#ng cat has eaten the cord and short-circuited the adapter. Can't read the voltage anymore. Anyone anywhere can pin through the rubber and get a voltage reading between the adapter and radio ?
Thanks

I have the same model. I checked the output - it is 6V ..

I bought the exact same docking station last week at Zellers in Quebec city to do the test. I poked my tester's leads through the pair of wire and got a 12V reading. Positive beeing the white painted wire, negative beeing the one with the wire gauge writhings and all.
I tested with a 12V power supply I had and the radio works great.
But after your post, I also tested with a 6V and it works great too, even when cranking the volume.
Means from 6 to 12V can be used to repair the radio. But make sure to respect polarities.
Mine is already repaired and working.

Check on the AC adapter that came with the device. It should list the DC output voltage and mA. Use the closest setting that works. Try not to go over the output of the stock adapter. A little over should be ok. For example if the stock one puts out 8 and you have to set to 9 volts.

I have had a Sony ICF SW7600 for the last 18 years. Now, it only wishes to work on batteries and not on the AC adapter anymore. What can be the problem and how to fix it

I have the exact same problem here in Europe with my perfectly with my Sony shortwave after 18 years. If I fiddle with the ac adaptor in the radio plug, it works for a while. I have replaced and soldered the yellow tip adaptor twice in 18 years and hopefully the problem is with the power plug and not the radio plug.
Any help is appreciated.

Describe your dream machine sony icf cs10ip Problem Its power adaptor blew up.......what is the DC input, for me to buy a adaptor?

I have the same problem. I used in on a trip to Europe and plugged it in on 220v. Now I have to replace the power adaptor and I took it to 3 different repair shops. They all told me thye needed to know the specification of the power adaptor, like output voltage and mA in order to change it. But these info are not specified on the adaptor like it should. So I spoke to a sony representative over a online chat and she told me the adaptor doens`t come with the speaker, it's not from sony and they do not have this onformation I needed. So we tried with a 500 mA 3v and the clock was showing but there was not sound, the ipod was not being charged, etc. So we changed it to a 900mA and 6v. It works now! Well, I don know if these are the right specification but everything is working perfectly. I'm just not sure if it can get damaged after a while if these are not exactly the right voltage and power.

Sony ICF-7600 7Band power adapter polarity question

Hello Xiar, Yes the center pin is positive. You have to use any regulated 6volt DC adapter. It may be a good ideea to put a 6v regulator (xx7806) after the adaptor bridge. I have a icf7600 fm/mw/sw 7band receiver too and I`m looking for the service manual or the pcb layout for it. If it by chance you have it mail me at hicom@easynet.ro Regard, Alex

I need the colon in the time display of the Sony ICF-C1iPMK2 to stop flashing.

Sometimes the colon is the 'seconds' count - did it always do this? Try to unplug for 1 minute and then reset the time - if it still flashes I suspect that it was a built in feature - some do this...
