I have taken alot of pictures with my sd card. This past week, I turned my camera on to take a picture, but the screen displayed "memory card cannot be used". It was not full. I went home and...

If the card can be detected as a drive letter (like H:) in My Computer, you can recover lost pictures from SDHC card with this:
1. Do not save any new pictures into the card of your camera.
2. Insert the SDHC card into a card reader. Connect it with computer.
3. Download recovery software, recommended one is Tenorshare Data Recovery (simply because i was using it and it worked) http://www.any-data-recovery.com/product/datarecoverystandard.htm
4. Install and open the program, select your memory drive, and click 'Start' button to start scanning process which will find your deleted pictures.

Orange lights flickers for up to 30 seconds on start up and after each picture is taken

30 seconds is quite a long time for a camera on start up but I don't have the start up time specifications for this camera. Now for the orange light flickering after a shot the lights are telling your the pictures is being loaded to your memory card. It still seams like a long time to be loading a picture but I don't know where you has set the quality level of your photo's another thing is formatting the memory card. The memory card needs to be formatted to the camera it is being used in, if this card was not formatted I'm surprised it's working at all. My suggestion would be to download the pictures from the camera to your computer Hard Drive eject or safe disconnect the camera "drive" different computer call it different names. You must stop the card before removing the USB cable.
Once the pictures are on the computer hard drive then format the memory card this will clean all the pictures off the memory card and make it ready for new pictures.

Some pictures seem to have been deleted from the memory card and I can not figure out how to retreive them from internal memory

The delete (garbage can) on all these cameras should be used sparingly it's been the cause of more problems then enough but it's there and people use it, The memory card should be formatted every time the pictures are downloaded to the computer. That way the memory card is clean and fresh for the next series of new pictures. Now the pain about getting the pictures from internal memory to the computer is another little annoyance. Each picture from the internal memory has to be loaded to the removable memory card one at a time then when all the pictures are on the removable memory card they can be downloaded to the computer and the internal memory cleared/deleted. I own a Canon EOS Rebel XTi. This camera is unpredictable; i.e., I never know when it will decide not to record an image. I have reset it many times to the manufacturer's default settings, and then it...

Okay at least the memory card isn't locked or it wouldn't be taking any pictures. Couple things one is did your format the memory card before using it? Do you format the memory card after downloading pictures to the computer? Do you just unplug the USB cable or remove the memory card from a card reader before doing a safe disconnect? What I believe is that you delete and delete and delete pictures from the card and it's not corrupted with a lot of useless data residue. Short answer to your problem is format the memory card in the camera you intend to use it in. Have a great day

Uploading pictures

There is two way to upload pictures to your computer.

First you can upload directly form your phone trough the use of your phone USB cable. But this part you need to install your phone driver so that your phone would be detected.

Second you can upload pictures trough the use of memory card reader and no driver needed. Be sure the the picture in your phone are stored in memory card. At this time the things you should do is to remove your memory card from your phone. Insert your memory card to the memory card reader and plug to your computer. Now you can start to upload your picture.

You can add memory to your camera by purchasing an xd memory card.
Compatible cards
xD-Picture Card (16MB – 1GB)
There are two ways to record the pictures you take with this camera.
Recording pictures to the internal memory
• Pictures are recorded to the internal memory, and when the number of storable still
pictures reaches 0, you must connect the camera to a computer to download the
pictures, and then erase the pictures from the internal memory.
Using an xD-Picture Card (optional)
• Pictures are recorded to the card when inserted in the camera. When the card is
full, you download the pictures to a computer, and then either erase the pictures
from the card or use a new card.
• Pictures are not recorded to the internal memory when a card is inserted in the
camera. Pictures in the internal memory can be copied to the card using the
[BACKUP] function.

a computer, the message [CARD ERROR] is displayed. To use this card with this
camera, use the [FORMAT] function to format the card.

Saved images to the internal memory or to the optional xD-Picture Card

The internal memory and the xD-Picture Card cannot be used at the same time. When the card is inserted the internal memory is disabled. When you want to use the internal memory, remove the xD Picture Card. The LCD display will indicate that images are saved to internal memory by displaying [IN] in the lower right corner of the screen. When using the xD-Picture Card the camera’s LCD will display [xD] in the lower right corner of the screen. These indicators are displayed just above the number of available frames.
