Question about Building Materials

Open Question

We have a problem with our Stanley 8500.51 garage door opener.

Right after closing or sometimes a few minutes later we hear the door bumping. We have tried turning the dial but doesn't seam to help. After a while it stops and seems to be fine for a day or 2.Also. the light keeps flashing on and off while its doing this. any ideas?

SOURCE: Craftsman 1/2 HP door opener bounces back open

Hello,

There should be 2 sensors on the bottom of your door on the inside, 1 on the right side and 1 on the left side.
These sensors serve 1 purpose to send a beam or reflection to each other.
If something is blocking this reflection or is in front of the sensor the door will always come back up.
It is a safety feature so nothing or no one gets hurt when the door is closing!

The close setting limit switch needs adjusted. Once it is adjusted it should work just fine.

SOURCE: My garage door opener won't close the garage door.

Most likely your door sensors have been bumped and are not aligned properly. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not blinking.

SOURCE: My garage door opens fine, just wont close with

Clean both safety sensors lens located at the bottom of the garage door frame. Make sure both sensors led lights are lit. If not they are out of alignment and you will have to loosen the wing nut on the sensor that is lit and move it, trying to get the other sensor to light.

I NEED THE MANUAL FOR MY STANLEY 8500.51 GARAGE DOOR IT WON'T CLOSE

Try searching around here to find similar or hopefully exact opener. Stanley no longer is in the garage door business, and the company that bought them out went bankrupt.
Good Luck

Liftmaster 1255lm garage door opener

It sounds like a problem with the infrared safety beams, either they are not working, are misaligned (someone might have kicked/bumped into one), or I even had one that didn't work because there was too many cobwebs/dust covering one of the lenses.
