Question about Dyson DC28 Animal Bagless Upright Vacuum

Open Question

I have a dyson dc28 animal and the tubing that is connected to what I believe is called the air muscle has snapped. How do I fix it?

There are two shorter tubes that are easier to replace. One thinner longer one goes back into the motor compartment. The lower motor cover must be removed to replace it. Cut off the zip ties holding the tube you want to replace to remove it. Look closely how it is in the vacuum before removal. Install the new tube exactly as the old one was.

SOURCE: Dyson DC28 Air Muscle Vacuum that is stuck in upright position

This turns out to be an easy fix.

First, get some graphite lube.

Lay the vac on it's 'face'.

1) On the underside of the vacuum, there is a 1/2" wide 'groove" in the motor housing, that runs up the centerline of the machine. Follow this groove from the front of the machine towards the back. As you follow it 'up' into the machine, the groove will 'end'. Just past this point there will be a small black plastic piece with little 'ears' that is resting in another groove that continues just past the point where the first groove ended. This is the upright position lock that isn't releasing. (I've painted the 'ears' red in the attached photo)

2) Using a screwdriver, or butter knife, etc, gently lift this piece out of the groove. The vacuum head should now easily tilt down like it should.

3) Flip the vacuum over onto it's 'back' and you will be able to see the grooves, now visible on the front of the lower head. Apply the graphite to the smaller (upper) groove and try working the unit in and out of the upright position several times to work the graphite into the locking mechanism

SOURCE: Dyson Animal Dc28..no suction...getting hot

      Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC28. If it doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual, it's possible that there's a blockage in the system, and you may need to give the filters a wash.

The easiest way to check for and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

      http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1231&product=DC28-ANIMAL

The correct way to wash the filters is shown in the video linked below. Under normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months. Use cold water without any detergents, and ensure the filters are totally dry before replacing them - this may take up to 24 hours.

      http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1456&product=DC28-ANIMAL

Hopefully, by clearing any obstructions and washing the filters, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've tried this and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to askdysonUS@dyson.com, someone will be in contact as soon as possible. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you recommend the best course of action.

Hi Sara, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your DC28 shut itself off while you were using it, it sounds like it may have overheated. Like most Dyson vacuums, it includes a safety device which shuts the vacuum down for protection if it begins to overheat. This could be due to a blockage, or because the filters are overdue for a wash.

DC28 has two filters, which should be washed at least once every 3 months as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for them to dry completely before replacing them:

To check for any blockages, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:http://www.dyson.com/support/dc28/dc28-animal/diagnosis-root-menu/dc28filterwashvid/wand-suction-dc28

I'm confident this will help, but if you would like some further advice from our experts after giving this a try, please call us on 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Hi Robert, it's Jack at Dyson.

If you're having difficulty reclining your DC28 from the upright position, it's possible something like a pen or pencil has been accidentally vacuumed up, and is jamming the changeover valve.

        Long and short tubing

Hi Sharon, it's Jack at Dyson.

To replace the internal hose (the short section of flexible hose underneath the cleaner head), please follow the steps shown in the video above. The internal hose has a push-fit connection at both ends - please make sure it's pushed firmly into place.

To replace the main hose at the rear of the machine, please take a look at our Support guide: http://www.dyson.com/support/dc28/dc28-animal/diagnosis-root-menu/dc28filterwashvid/wand-suction-dc28/wand-from-hose-dc28/hose-suction-dc28/redirect-to-check-the-hose-dc28/check-the-hose-dc28

If you remove the clear bin and cyclone pack from the machine as if you were about to empty it, you should see the hose release tab to disengage the hose from the machine.

I hope this helps, but if you need any further guidance please email askdysonUS@dyson.com, and one of our experts will be in touch as soon as possible.

        Best wishes,
