If you are talking about the bobbin case and it looks like the one below, it has a flipper latch at the very front that you just hook a fingernail on and open. Shouldn't have to remove any screws. The latch is the long vertical piece with the hole in the very center.

SOURCE: Bobbin thread getting caught

Check your Instruction manual - if you have taken the bobbin case apart to clean it, the shuttle must be reinserted with the little tab pressing against the piece you mention. It is under page 45 - "Caring for your machine" in my book. I missed it the first time I cleaned and oild mine.

The bobbin case is not supposed to move. It should only have a little bit of wiggle room so there is enough clearence for the thread.

SINGER TOUCHTRONIC 2001 How do I remove the bobbin case to try to clean out any threads or fuzz? See previous question regarding ratty loopy knotted bobbin threads on the underside of my seams.

Actually, the touch 'n sew machines, don't HAVE a bobbin case. What you see when you remove the bobbin is the bobbin basket. On other machines, the case goes in the basket, but on those there is none.

However, generally you can remove the bottom of the case relatively easily without having to remove anything else, and it will allow you to see and remove any debris that has fallen below the basket.

What you're experiencing may be because you didn't raise the presser foot when you are threading. That is the only time the upper tension disks that apply tension to the thread are spread, so that you can thread in between them. If you don't do that, either the thread isn't getting any tension at all when you're sewing, or the thread is only in the outer part of the disk, so not enough tension is being applied.

Although I have known that for many years, occasionally I forget myself--it's easy to forget.

Bobbin tread bunches and jams machine

If the bobbin is inserted with the thread spinning the wrong direction this will cause "birdnesting" - thread build up under needle plate, you need to cut thread to get the item off machine. flip the bobbin over into the case and try again. Also make sure you remove ALL thread caught up in "Birdsnest" when they happen.

How to replace bobbin assembly correctly on my singer merritt 4530 ? the threads been getting caught all around the bobbin assembly.

Yes, it should, and you might want to download your user's manual free at the Singer website, because replacing the bobbin case is pictured there.on page 41, along with instructions.

However, I can tell you that the feed dog plate with the two screws in is DESIGNED to be removed, and must be removed to get the bobbin case back in. It's important that you follow the instructions; the case must be inserted correctly so that it does NOT move, and make sure that it sits evenly in the bobbin basket (the thing that holds the bobbin case. While you are at it, you might want to also clean the basket, using q-tips with a drop of ONLY sewing machine oil on the cotton, making sure you also get under the lip before you put the bobbin case back in.

Machine is Jammed

Try turning the wheel to the right end manually----briskly back and forth to loosen thread that are caught in the bobbin. Remove bobbin and clear threads. If none, remove plate below needle to see if thread or fluffy threads are clogged below. No good...have it serviced by a professional.

Singer sewing machine bobbin thread knots rather than forming stitches or forms large loose stiches on bottom of fabric

What you have going on is a bobbin problem. The knots are referred to as birds' nests and happen when your bobbin thread gets caught on a piece of the bobbin casing. The large, loose stitches are normally caused by a problem with the bobbin case, a bobbin that is would properly, or when you're getting to the end of the bobbin's thread and the thread is loosely would on the bobbin at that point.

You're best bet is probably to buy a new bobbin casing. They're usually about $25 or so and you should be able to find one on eBay by searching for Singer (your machine name and model) under the Crafts category. The silver plate on top of the area covering where you place your bobbin into has screws you need to carefully remove (careful not to loose them!). If you need to, take pictures with your cellphone or digital camera as you remove the old bobbin casing so you can see how to put the new one in.

This should take care of the problem. If, for some reason it doesn't, you may well have a problem ALSO with your bobbin tension, and that should be looked at by a Singer Technician. You can find one in the yellow pages near you or probably by searching Yahoo Local. Happy Sewing.

How do I load the bobbin on a touch and sew model 775

To thread the bobbin, open the slide plate, make sure the machine is threaded all the way up as normal, take the thread and wind it round a few times round the presser foot screw, push the little lever over near the bobbin to raise the winder, slowly press on the foot control and it will wind the bobbin, when you have enough thread, close the slide plate and draw the thread to the back of the machine and start sewing.

Black bobbin case

If this is the machine I think it is the bobbin case is completely round as opposed to half round. If it is half round ignore the following.
Remove the presser foot and then the two screws which hold the needle plate. Lift off the needle plate and then lift out the old bobbin case. Clean all the lint out and then insert the bobbin case so that the less round part of it is to the back and the lip around the bobbin case is resting on the lip around the hook. Turn the hand wheel a few times to be sure it is working smoothly and not binding. Replace the Needle plate , bobbin and presser foot. Insert a new needle, thread the machine, Check your tension to be sure it is working correctly, turn the hand wheel again to be sure it is picking up the thread without binding and sew.
