SOURCE: my monitor cannot pick up signal.

If your monitor displays No Signal, it means there is no video signal coming from the computer. Monitor is working fine.

It may just be the monitor cable. Do you have another one, or one you can borrow from another computer, for a test?

If a known, good, working, monitor cable yields the same results, the problem is your computer.
The computer isn't working.

The problem may be due to the power supply. Most of the time it is.

This statement is given because of,
A) Most of the computers that come to my shop, have this problem.
B) If you look on the internet, it is a common problem stated.
C) Most of the problems on here, are due to power supply issues with the computer.

You may see, or hear fans spin. Lights light, and it may sound like the harddrive is running.
Problem is, the processor doesn't have enough power to operate, so nothing is going to get done.

The main rating for power of a power supply is Watts.
Voltage times Amperage = Watts.

1) ALL the lights use less than 1 Watt

2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts

3) A typical Processor uses 55 to 125 Watts.
Depends on what processor it is.

The power supply has 3 main voltage power rails.
A) The 3.3 Volt rail
B) The 5 Volt rail
C) The 12 Volt rail

If the power supply develops a weak, or failed voltage rail, the Processor does not get enough power. Won't turn on.

Most of the time a power supply fails because it is dirty inside. (And the inside of the computer)

The simple solution is to unplug the computer from power, open the computer case, and use a can of compressed air for computers, on a regular basis.

Install the plastic 'straw' into the nozzle, and shoot air into the inside of the computer in rows.

Start at the top inside part of the computer, going from one side, towards the other side.
Then go down towards the bottom.

Tip the case slightly with one hand, and use the other hand to shoot air towards the bottom, to remove the remaining dust/dirt.

Shoot air into the power supply, from the back of the power supply through the ventilation holes. (Inside of computer)

Use a few Q-tips, and clean the fan blades, center hub, and surrounding cage, of the power supply fan, then use air. (Back of computer)

The rest of the time the fault lies in bad Electrolytic Capacitors inside the power supply.

CAUTION!!
NEVER open a computer power supply!

The Electrolytic Capacitors inside, hold a charge for Weeks, sometimes Months, after the power supply has been unhooked from power!

You can get shocked Badly, or even Fatally!
Best solution is to replace the power supply. If you have another working power supply, you could use it for a test.

[Be sure to work on a table. Be SURE to touch the metal frame of the computer case, (Case open),
BEFORE you reach inside!
(Computer UNPLUGGED from power)

Your body carried Static electricity. Static can fry out computer hardware components, in a New York second!
Computer unplugged from power you're safe.
Touch the metal frame before reaching inside, the computer is safe.

If you get up for any reason, leave, then return, touch the metal frame again!]

Check if you VGA is properly settled in the PCI slot. Try to take it out, clean the slot for dust.
If that doesn't help, it is well possible that you VGA is not working any more.

LG W2361V 23 Vga to HDMI Cable Not Working

You have a cable problem as no such thing as a VGA to HDMI cable exists.

HDMI is a didital signal and is thus not compatable with an anolog VGA signal. HDMI to DVI cables however do exist as both are digital signals.

Hope this helps.

My monitor screen has become greenish and with

Hello Devsi, hi, check your VGA cable connection for loose connections, try tighten it first to see if it solves the problem. the greenish thing is cause by a missing red signal, and the distortion is caused by a missing horizontal sync signal, also check out if there are bent pins on your monitor signal cable. just unplug the VGA cable and see if the pins are in order. if bent, carefully straighten it with a slim slotted screw driver.

Can i connect a dvid cable from the monitor to my flat screen tv hdmi to watch videos from my computer? Thank you Martin

the Flat Screen TV if has, a HDMI input, also has VGA Input.

You must choose :HDMI or VGA, if HDMI The VGA board must Have HDMI Connector, and you connect a HDMI cable to the TV.

The HDMI is a digital signal input/output, VGA is Analog Signal. You must have Signal Converter if you Use the 2 signals

Brand new Monitor blank screen says No Signal

There is nothing wrong with the monitor. The LCD is not recieving any signals from the PC. Either you are connecting the VGA cable incorrectly or your VGA card is not set from the PC BIOS. The VGA cable might also be faulty.
Recheck that all the connections are clean and secure. If you are using a PCI-E or AGP card, the computer BIOS should be set to send the video signals through the PCI-E or AGP card. Follow the procedure in your motherboard manual.
If your pc has on-board graphics then you should connect the VGA cable to the on-board VGA out connector.
