How do i bypass the front door starter on a hotpoint front loading dryer? The part broke and i have 2 wires sticking out. As i cannot afford the repair, how can i bypass and shu on/off from the panel?

on some hotpoint models you can remove the front kickplate and on there will be a yellow or green plastic pull toggle, pull this and it will bypass your door lock, if your appliance does not have this then you will need to unplug and leave unplugged for 10-15 mins to reset the door lock, you will however more than likely need a new door lock

It is probably a faulty door lock, a common problem.
Remove front of door seal by releasing the wire clamp, and unscrew door lock, it has 3 wires going to it, to prove it is the door lock, short out the 2 wires marked C and L ,it should now work, if it does not , then the fault is elsewhere,, but I feel confident this is the problem.

You will have to remove the top cover, and force the door open from the inside with a screwdriver or similar.
You may damage the door lock in doing this, but there is usually no other way of doing this..

If the door is closed, then the Door Lock micro switch may need replacing.


The switch can be tested by a technician bypassing it or reading impedance to see if micro switch is opening and closing.


Try first disconnecting power for a couple of minutes to reset the control board.


If you need to contact a technician call the number listed on the owners manual.

First switch off electrics , Remove door interlock , leave wires on .remove soap dispenser,remove front panel with controls 3 screws top of machine 3 screws bottom remove front casing you can now see door boot. remove sring note how boot came off refit is oposit to this noting top / bottom of seal ..Hope this some help-

1 door seal
2 heater ellement
3 front plate
4 front plate seal
5 outer container split

try looking at these first

there r 2 ways to get the door open 1)use a normal knife and place in front of the door handle push it in and it should open 2)pull the plug out take the lid off now place your hand down to where the catch goes into the washer using your fingers u should be able to pop it open with a bit off fiddling

take the top loose on the dryer to acces the door switch. If it is the old style it should have a metal suround over the black switch. If the metal arm piece has broke, Ttake it off and tape the white button down to make it run.

The door switch may be faulty, as a safeguard the machine will not start if the door is not closed properly or this part is faulty. You can check this by pushing the door firmly in or (unplug the machine first) removing the front of the door seal and putting your hand around the corner where the door latch goes into.
The door switch only uses a live and neutral so you can bypass it by taping the two wires together, make sure they don't touch the cabinet, replug the machine then put it on a spin to test. This is a cheap repair, just don't use the machine with the door switch bypassed like that, you could have a flood!

Try "end of cycle" button & wait for 2 minutes before you try the door..........
