Make sure the wipers are in the parked position - fully at the bottom of their travel. Haynes guide says to then put a wrench on the motor drive crank and a wrench on the bolt to get the bolt off

I have seen circuit breakers trip at a lower amperage. It seems that they are weak. Generally circuit breakers run with 80% load with no problem, in your case 24 amps. I would replace the circuit breaker.

the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and
reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the
software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it
should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

Depending upon how familiar you might be with the location of the under-hood release, you may be able to access it through the small opening between the hood and grill that follows opening the bonnet by pulling the lever under the steering wheel. A long narrow standard head screwdriver and a good light may be all that is required. That is exactly how the mechanic at the VW garage will release the hood latch.
If your not at all familiar with the hood latch, it might be useful to view the mechanism in another Passat so that you know how it functions. Less than a 5 minute job, but the dealer will likely charge about $65 to perform the task, substantially more to replace the broken mechanism.

dryer vent clamp should work o.k.. make sure the garbage can is vented so air can escape. cut a @ 4" hole in the can near the top (or in the lid) and use silicone to cover the hole from the inside with household window type screen
