SOURCE: Hard drive adaptor
Your laptop HDD uses a newer connection type called SATA. The one you are used to using is called IDE. They do make adapters to go from one to the other but they are hard to find and not very reliable (sometimes just dont work).
You can find a 2.5" (laptop size) hard drive enclosure for SATA to USB at almost any electronics store.
Double check your motherboard (on your desktop if thats what you are using to read the drive) for SATA connectors on it. Many computers have been using SATA almost as a standard since about 2004-2005, but some may not still have it.
The reason for the new type of connection is faster data transfer speeds.

SOURCE: Is there some adaptor to
Not that I have ever heard of. You could get a Floppy drive bracket and remove the floppy from the case and install it that way. It's just a regular Floppy connected to an adapter inside that case that turns it into a Portable. Like the stand alone backup drives everyone buys today. You remove the hard drive from the casing and it mounts like any other drive.

Yes! You can use your old chargers with the iPhone 5 however you will need to buy the adapter for them so that they will be compatible with the new "lightning" sync connection. You can read about it here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD823ZM/A/lightning-to-30-pin-adapter?fnode=48
