Common wood borers

Spray spectricide carpenter bee spray into borer holes. Use some wood glue to secure the steel wool in place. This will in effect, kill any borers that are in the hole, keep them from coming out if they hatch. It will also keep bees that were born in that hole from coming back and re-using the hole. Obviously, the steel wood is too much for the borers to penetrate. Keep a watchful eye for bees that return and spray them as soon as you see any sawdust - repeat the process. Ultimately, the bees won't come back. You could always caulk and paint over the glue/steelwool holes.'0&pl=1tURL=%3FNs%3Dp_product_price%7C0%26Ntt%3Dpaintable%2Bcaulk%26page%3D1&facetInfo=

Sap is the pines natrural defense and protective measure when the tree has a break or cut in the bark or is being attacked by insects. So the sap could be seeping out from a broken branch or if it is a borer, there would be small holes(1/4 inch or less) in the bole(trunk) of the tree and there will also be sawdust coming out of the holes and around the base of the tree from the larvae eating the tree.
