A H4 code on this machine means a Thermistor issue.
The thermistor messures how hot the hot section gets indide your machine. This code is re-setable though =]..
If it is the machine im thinking of, it is actually a AR-205.
To get into service mode press
*** c, (int), 0, (int) ***
>> (Clear, Interrupt, Zero, Interrupt)
The screen should then go blank,
Simply enter "14" then press the copy button.
The machine will reset, and the code will be gone.
If there is something seriously wrong with the thermistor though. The code will come back fairly soon, and in that case you will have to get a Authorized Sharp Agent to replace this part =]

Scanner movement failure. The scanner is the part under the glass that lights up and moves back and forth. So if you lift up the feeder so you can see the glass, turn the machine off for a few seconds then back on. Watch the movement of the scanner. It should move right and inch or two then back to the left. If all goes well the copier should come to ready. Lay a piece of paper on the glass and press the print button to watch the scanner movement. If it binds up or does not scan correctly there are 2 possibilities.
1) your scanner lock is engaged and is preventing the scanner from moving. Check the clear plastic dial located under the far left upper side of the copier, near where the paper exits the machine. Make sure it is in the unlocked position.
2) Your scanner rail is dirty and dry. This rail can be seen under the glass towards the back of the copier. The scanner rides on this rail. It is very common for these to get dirty and for the grease to dry up causing the scanner to freeze up on the rail. The glass must be removed and the rail cleaned and lubricated.
Good Luck and thank you for using Fixya.
