    Cheers for your response!

I have tried this several times and im loading from a backup disk. However this process isnt working.

I thought it would be easy to just load your back updisk using the backup and restore, but this clearly isn't happening.

    Is there any other way?

    cheers

Hiya,

As far as I'm aware Windows Vista looks for the last disc first, so you need to put in the last disc of the set and follow the instructions from there.

If you need to set your cd drive to boot first then you will need to enter the bios set up screen.

Usually you would press DEL to access this but I'm not 100% sure if you would even need to as these are Microsoft back up discs, so I assume they would auto boot regardless of your bios settings..

I hope this helps

Before windows starts, press F2 or F10? Can't remember which. I think F2
Then it will bring you to your computer bios screen.
You will want to set your cd-rom as FIRST boot-up drive
then HDD as your SECOND BOOT UP.

Then hit save. Place cd in computer, and reboot computer. It should run first thing.

Why don't you copy all the data files that you require to the disk without using the wizards ans past the data to the other computer.

That is the best option i think.

    Thanks

Hi

you could try this if it helps

There are two ways to access Roxio BackOn Track to recovery the computer, either through the boot menu, or through the Windows Start menu.
You can use the boot menu to restore your computer to a previous working state or to return the computer to the state it was in before the last time it was restored.
    1. Press the power button to turn on the HP Mini.
    2. Press and hold down the f6 key to open the Windows Boot Manager, use the down arrow key to select Roxio BackOnTrack , and then press the enter key to open Roxio BackOn Track.
If you can access Windows, in addition to restoring your computer to a previous working state, you use other options, such as Disaster Recovery.
    1. Click Start , All Programs , Roxio , BackOnTrack , and then BackOnTrack Home to open Roxio BackOn Track

    Hope this helps you

Shut your computer all the way down. As soon as you turn it on, start hitting F8 about 3-4 times, that will take you to an advanced options menu. Select "Last known good configuration" and that should work

Go to Start Menu, point at Control Panel and right click then select 'Open'.

First, check the programs you have installed. It's songs and videos right? Then, open "Programs and Features".

Take your time to select programs you don't need one after the other and click "Uninstall". Just leave Media players, converters and burners or special type readers/writers.

Secondly, check if Windows Update is doing a quick and silent one on your software. Still in Control Panel, click "Windows Update" and choose to turn off updates entirely.

Now, the baloon comes up at your task bar. Well, in that section of control panel, choose "Change the way Security Center" alerts me and uncheck "Updates".

Thirdly, Update your antivirus and do a full scan of your computer.

Fourthly, if you use Microsoft Security Essentials, you can have a restore point created automatically on each scheduled system scan.

In that way you can do a disk cleanup after such scan. To be on the safer side, keep "System Restore" on.

After a disk cleanup, check if your files are intact and do the disk cleanup option in the second tab of your disk properties "Clean Restore points" except the most recent.

I guess the System Restore option should be your point of call and disk cleanup to the most recent.

I hope this works for you.

Gateway laptop reset

Gateway Direct systems went "media-less" back in September 2004. In the event of a system crash users could either 1) restore their systems from the Recovery Partition OR 2) from the backup media that they were prompted to create on first power-up -- which would provide them with up to 5 blank CD-R discs depending on their system's configuration.

On the factory load of the hard drive, the recovery partition will not contain operating system files. It only contains application and driver files.
The first time the recovery partition is used, it prompts the user to insert their System Recovery CD/DVD to copy files from the CD to the recovery partition.
The Drivers and Applications CD is not bootable and does not contain Operating System files.
The System Recovery CD/DVD is bootable but does not contain any application or driver files.
If the end-user erases the hard drive and restores the computer using the System Recovery CD/DVD and an Applications and Drivers CD, the recovery partition is not recreated.

This means that you will need the operating system restore disc FIRST then the recovery partition will work for you

Our dvd drive does not even recognize there is a dvd in drive I believe we purchased our computer in 2002 ...

Check the DVD and make sure it is not scratched. Try another DVD just to make sure it is not reading all DVDs and not just that one.

Did this happen just recently? If so, roll back the computer using the restore option. Set it back to a date when it worked (this will fix any driver, software issues).

If none of the above work, you will need topurchases a new DVD player for laptop. Check eBay for reasonable prices.

You have to have the software that backed up your files to disk installed on the computer, the same software has to restore the files. For example, Nero will not restore files created by Slysoft. Good Luck.

CD/DVD Drive

Make sure that DMA is checked for the dvd player.

What program are you using to read (play) the DVD?

If you are using Windows media Player and Nero 6 you need to:

Go to

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\DSFilter\NeAudio.ax and NeVideo.ax
Don't delete these files!
For safety reason create New folder and move files in it.

Try this and let us know . Thanks
