SOURCE: I have a speaker system

Very strange, do you have the other speakers hard wired directly into this receiver? Most "whole house" units go through a switch box of sorts that connects the speakers to the switch box, then from there to your receiver. It sounds like the switch box may have been tripped up by the power outage and probably just needs to be reset. It could of course have become "fried" by the power outage, but it is unlikely. You may have one of these and don't even realize it. I'd bet there is some kind of control panel that you can use to specify which speakers are on and when, in your house? It is whatever is connected to this control panel that I refer to, or in some cases the control panel itself. It definitely doesn't sound like anything on the receiver.

Let me know and I can help further, but check around for what I mentioned!

SOURCE: I have a sherwood cdc-5090/c/r multiple cd player - it goes on error when using open/close, disc selector, disc skip. have tried troubleshing guide but doesn't seem to work.

The problem is in the CD loading bays, quite often the gears will ware over a period of time causing error messages because it is unable to complete the cycle. The second issue is the timing gears go out of sink because one of the CD'S gets jammed against the other causing it go out. The repairs are tricky because of the timing issue, however if gears are stripped the whole CD bay must be replaced.

How do i fix my cd player

How to Fix a Car CD Player

Simple Troubleshooting

Before you decide to open up the player and attempt more invasive repairs, try some of these more basic troubleshooting tips to figure out how to fix a car CD player:
  • Is the problem related to the volume or quality of the sound? This could be related to the speakers and not the main unit of your audio system. Take the time to remove the covers from the speakers in your car and make sure there's no trapped dirt or damage. Also check the electrical connections on the back to make sure they are still firm and make a good connection.
  • If the speakers look fine, another issue that could affect sound is the quality of the connections behind the head unit of your system. You'll need to open the dash to access the unit (see your owner's manual or an auto repair manual for your car). Make sure all channel (speaker) connections are solid and make good contact.
  • When you insert a disc, is the CD display blank? While it sounds simple, one of the most common mistakes people make is inserting a CD upside down. This will cause the player to act as though it isn't working.
  • Is the music skipping or stopping completely? This is commonly caused by dirty or damaged tracks on the disc. Before assuming that the problem is with the player, test a few newer CDs and see if the skipping behavior continues. If it doesn't, the the problem is the disc and you'll need to look into cleaning or repairing the disc so that it can play normally again.

Not outputting to all speakers from CD, but does from DVD

Hi,.

With the indulgence of the others...
dfadfab.jpg
If I understand your problem right:
1. CD works only in Speaker A (but not in Speaker B);
2. DVD works on either or both A/B;
3. CD will work if plug into to VCR input but selector must be of another source (not VCR).

A couple of suggestions:
a. pls try doing again the reset as ginko has suggested but make it a bit longer, i.e. unplug it from the mains for a couple of hours;
b. since you have remove most of the wiring, why dont you try switch A & B. make the family room speakers the B while the speaker selector the A;
c. hook the CD (only) using the RCA cables (red/white) nothing else;
d. play any CD music and go through the paces of selecting source, speakers, surround/hall/theater/etc as troylove11 has suggested.

This would be now a simple setup, 1 source (CD) to 1 output/speaker (the family room) via the Denon. Try different settings. If the CD plays normally then, without changing any setting nor powering it off (but with volume level all the way down), remove the family room speaker wiring and replace it with the wires to/from the speaker selector.

the idea is to determine which is the real issue, the Sony, the Denon settings/hardware or the speaker selector.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Only one speaker is working

Can you switch the wires to the speakers?
That will tell you right away if the problem is with the speaker or the output.

SHERWOOD CDC-2000C ?D6376 starts skipping it was sent to be repair played about 2 discs when I got it back and started skipping again

Unfortunately the laser pickup assembly needs to be replaced, overtime the laser becomes weaker until it can not track properly and will end up skipping or won't read the disc. It is far cheaper to replace the CD player than have the assembly replaced.

Is there a way of connecting my ipod to my sherwood cd player?

The answer isn't with the CD player, it's with the amp.
Does the amp have selectable inputs, or does it just have one input for each channel?

If it's a simple power amp, then you'll have to unplug the CD player and connect your iPod to the amp inputs. I'm guessing that the CD player connects to the amp with RCA (phono) connectors like these ones.
If that's the case, you can get a cable (like this one at Radio Shack, but any office supply store will have one too) to connect your iPod to the amp.
