My color is all out of whack on my SP-55W3HF Samsung. When I run the convergence alignment, I find that my red will not align. The red display markers are also bowed. Any ideas?

Your TV may have a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

I have this tv and it took me 6 months to figure this out thoroughly.
1) Call PartStore.Com and order two convergence chips. The product number is STK392-040. They are 55 dollars a peice but it is so worth it. Sears wanted to charge me 500 to fix it.
2) After you get your chips, you will have to removed the back of your tv and TAKE OUT the deflection board- one in middle with red and white wire coming off of it. REFER to this website: http://www.ehow.com/how_4575598_yourself-projection-tv-repair-convergence.html
There is a picture step by step on the internet, but I cant find it right now.
3) After taking it out you WILL NEED thermal heat compound (radioshack-8 dollars) and a soldering set. Its easier if you know someone who solders. Also if you dont, check with your local university- their engineering/tech depart does that for free.Just bring them the detached board and chips and tell them.
4) After the new chips are soldered on, hook it back up, turn on tv and VOILA ....happiness.
Important- there is a small round magnet on the board behind the red wire....MAKE SURE you dont lose that....it keeps your picture within width on screen.
