I have a 20 hp mercury outboard serial#06082001.I want to know what year it is and if it's 2 or 4 stroke

If you drop the first zero it would put it at 1981.

this site gives a different answer, as 1980- 81, so close. It SUGGESTS it is a 4 stroke engine.

It is likely a 4 stroke, but I won't give you a definitive answer, due to the damage it can cause with a guess!

A four stroke running with two stroke oil will just smoke, but a two stroke with no oil will seize and leave you stranded on the water with a seized engine!

A four stroke engine has valves operated by push rods or a pulley and a chain, a two stroke just has a head. Take a look at the engine and it should be obvious.

For your first service, I would suggest you go to a marine engineer. Ask all the questions, and get the right answers. When I had my 1986 Evinrude serviced, i typed a list of questions and left the list with him. i asked him when I picked up the boat and wrote the answers down. The first one was 'petrol to oil ratio and which is the best oil'. A basic service will cost you a hundred bucks and you will have some comfort that you are unlikely to break down, 6 miles offshore with only a paddle :)*

2008 Yahama 90 2 stroke outboard lower unit fluid leak

Ok by fluid I assume it is gear oil leaking yes?
There is every chance there is the smallest seal leak there that may only be present once the gear case gets a little pressure in it, either through use, or through expansion as the leg heats sitting in the sun even. Have you got a new washer installed under this screw to properly seal it? Usually a nylon type washer is best.

Also, how do you know the lower unit is not leaking or have water intrusion? Have you drained the gearbox oil recently? If so what color was the oil, milky looking at oil or good semi-transparent oil color?

Yamaha india

hello Sir,

It was the phase between 1990-1995, when Yahama lost to Hero Honda, as v know, Yahama was an expert in 2-stroke engine bikes, as v know 2-stroke engine will yield higher power but NO good mileage, n emit more smoke.
so...GOV OF INDIA phased out all production of 2 stoke engines in the country, so yamaha had to stop the production of Yamaha RX n RD series in INDIA.

N constantly rising fuel prize, utilizing this need form d public Hero Honda's CD 100 hit the market, with 4 stroke engine n heavily improved mileage.

hence Hero honda won the race...

Although Yamaha came up with some 4 stroke models, but those didnt click it for them, but now its again yamaha's time !!

with introuduction of Yamaha R15, FZR , really yamaha is back with a bang !!

thank u so much..!!
plz vote me/ rate me ..thank u!!
