Hi Tonoa Johnson, we want to help you with your question, but we need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
the password may be the admin password rather than the encryption key. Is there a login name like admin on bottom of router ?
or a key (don't tell us what it is but !) and network name ?
plug pc directly into router with ethernet cable.
internet browser - type in 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1 and log into router with admin user name and password. Go to WI FI security and note the security settings . WEP or WPA encryption key
if you provide the routers make and model number

the forum helpers will have more to go on to advise you ?

The IP addresses I suggested are the most common ones used on routers it may be different.
If it is then Go to DOS Prompt and type in ipconfig
press enter and note default gateway ip address

SOURCE: cannot connect my wifi laptop to the wireless router

If you use your original Win XP disks, there's a chance you now have XP SP1 (Service Pack 1). Make sure you've made all the necessary Windows Updates as working with WiFi networks was enhanced with XP SP2. Then you can try to find your wireless network and connect to it. If you had a secured network you'll need your previous network key (similar to a password, but without a username, the wireless key is needed to exchange data with the router) If you can't remember the settings on your Linksys you can reset it to factory settings with inserting something into the reset hole to press the hidden buton and holding it for several seconds until lights on the front flash. Then you HAVE to run the initial install procedure (find your CD and Quick Start sheet) because your router will be open and unsecured.

SOURCE: lost codes

On the back of your router there is a reset button, hold it down for 3o seconds or so, this will reset the router back to factory settings, the default user name and password would be admin, note that sometimes with the belkin you only need the user name and not the password. Usually you need admin/admin though.

The default IP address to access the router when its reset is 192.168.2.1

Hope that helps

SOURCE: netopia 3347nwg wifi locked!!!

Hello michael,

The lock you see indicates that the network you are trying to connect to requires a password for authentication.

You can access your ipod settings and enter the credentials by following the below steps:

1- First connect to your closed Wi-Fi network
2- Choose Wi-Fi, then tap Other and enter the network name.
3- Choose Security, tap the type of security the network uses, and enter the password.

This should be it.

Have a good day.

If you are sure it is correct, you will have to Reset it, usually a small hole on the back. Then you set it up on the computer with a new password.

How to Connect a Laptop to a Wireless Router

  • 1 Purchase a wireless router that fits your needs and price range.
  • Follow the router's manual to set up the router and its Internet connection, which will probably require connecting a wired client to the router. Once the wireless router is set up, the wired connection is no longer necessary. However, it's best to leave the wired client connected if it's a separate computer from that on which you're going to set up WiFi. If something goes wrong, you can access the administration interface again.
  • Gather information from the setup process. In order to set up the wireless client, you will need to know the service set identifier (SSID), the Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) key and the channel and mode.
  • Boot up the laptop and plug in the WiFi card. This will not be necessary if your laptop has an integrated WiFi card.
  • Install any drivers needed to use the WiFi card. Insert the disc that came with the WiFi card and follow the on-screen installation process. Most discs will trigger a new hardware wizard that makes installation extremely simple.
  • Double-click on the "WiFi Connection" icon. It can be found in the system tray at the bottom of the laptop screen.
  • Click on "Properties."
  • Select the "Wireless Networks" tab.
  • Use the "Add" button at the bottom of the dialog if your WiFi network isn't in the "Avable Networks" section.
  • Click on "Configure" when you see your network's SSID in the "Available Networks."
  • Enter your network's SSID and WEP key.
  • Click on "Start," then choose "Connect To" and "Wireless Network Connection." Your computer should now be able to access the WiFi network. If the WiFi network is connected to the Internet, it should also be able to connect to the Internet.

Wifi settings not find wireless connection

make sure your wifi router is broadcasting so you can find it from your laptop. you may need the pass-phrase if you have that turned on. also, check your laptop to make sure the wifi radio is turned on. this is usually a button on the side or a function key on your keypad.

I put in the wireless router and I'm able to access from my computer but I my laptop can't locate. What do I need to do?

Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.

Not able to connect wifi in my lapopo

In connecting through a wifi, there are two factors to consider. (1) Wireless Router broadcast and (2) Wireless Receiver.

Make sure that your network router is broadcasting wireless internet or wifi. Also, you have to know if you need a pass key or password in order to connect to the wireless network.

Now, given that there is a wifi spot, your laptop should automatically recognize the wifi broadcast and negotiate connection without your intervention. This will only happen IF AND ONLY IF your laptop has a wifi radio receiver and that it is TURNED ON. When it is turned ON, it will connect you immediately if the network has no pass key set. If there is, then you have to enter that key when you try to manually connect it. (Right click on wireless network icon on system tray. Then it should say: Wireless Network Available. Then Click CONNECT)

To turn your wifi radio receiver ON, slide a switch button to ON position depending on your laptop model. If you dont have that kind of switch, look for the wifi icon printed in the keyboard keys. In some laptop, it is in F2. Now Press FN+F2 to turn wifi radio receiever ON and OFF.
