Question about Winter Sports

Open Question

Error code came on gage (OIL 00003) the sled would run but not move and after sitting I was able to drive it on to the trailer what does the code mean.

This is on A 2011 yamaha Apex XTX Snowmobile

SOURCE: Yamaha snowmobile starting issue

check for power to starter w/ testlight when you press start button.if none check for power at starter side of starter solenoid when pressing start button.if none take large screwdriver and wedge between both solenoid posts creating contact w/ key swich on. motor should crank.if it does -starter is good. chek small wire coming out of solenoid for power w/ test light when pressing start,if none check start button contacts or power coming from key switch or wiring from start button to solenoid. if power is at small wire when pressing button but no crank-solenoid is bad.

Washing Machine Will Not Spin

Well, if you have one of the old Maytags that have a motor sitting on a sled plate with separate pulleys running underneath for the tub and drain pump, then it might be that the slide which the motor sits on is not sliding back and forth easily. Try manually moving/sliding the motor until the basket starts to spin. If that does the trick, then you might be able to just lubricate the sled so it will slide properly.

If you have one of the newer belt drive types that has a single belt on it, then it could be the shifter or the splutch.

Oil pressure gage stays at 80 only goes to 0 when not running

Replace the oil pressure sending unit, they are notorious for this problem.

What are some sledding safety tips I can tell my kids?

Make sure to choose a hill that isn't extremely steep.
Make sure that there are no ponds, trees, fences in the way.
Choose a snowy not icy hill-less dangerous.
Go in the daytime when you can see, not at night when you can't.
Wear proper winter clothes, but avoid scarves that can get tangled in the sled and strangle you.
Keep you arms and legs inside the sled.
Sit facing forwards so you won't get a head injury. Also wear a helmet.
If you fall off, move out of the way.

Number of litres for oil change for a 660 t artic cat turbo

You need about 3 liters of Mobil 0w40 synthetic oil. New oil filter.
There is a plug on the belly pan of the sled. Pull that off.
Then there is a oil drain plug on the oil pan of the sled(look through the hole in the belly pan)
Pull the oil plug and drain old oil.
If you have a turbo, take off the intercooler tube, and then put rags or papertowel below where the oil filter sits.
Spin off the oil filter (this might be real hard and some have resorted to driving a screwdriver through the filter to get it off)
After all has drained..
Put in oil pan plug.
Put in belly pan plug.
Spin on new filter, put a little oil on gasket first.
Replace intercooler tube.
Then refil from the top of the motor with 2.5L of oil.
Checking dipstick as you fill.
Then start motor for a second or two, to fill filter.
Top off the oil and recheck the dipstick until it reaches the full line.
It really is very easy and after you do it once, you will be an expert at it.

Hello Johnny.
At idle in gear is when your engine is running at it's slowest. The oil pump is also running slower.
As engine parts wear the oil escapes past these wear points reducing the available amount of oil flow.
This in turn reduces the oil pressure.
It is possible that the oil pressure sending switch is defective as well. But you should get the oil pressure tested on a manual gauge to verify. This is done by unthreading the oil pressure switch and installing a manual oil pressure tester with an accurate readout.
If you are hearing ticking noises the upper moving parts in the engine may not be getting proper oil pressure.
