Question about Empire Heating & Cooling

Empire dv-25. Pilot lights fine, good blue flame. Burner rail won't light or stay lit - sometimes it starts to catch. Orifice was removed and was clean - no debris. Not sure where to look next? T.Y.

Do you have an electrical meter that measures millivolts?This sounds like a millivolt system. The pilot orfice and pilot burner need to be clean so they are producing a hot flame, hitting the pilot generator to create enough millivoltage to open the main valve coil. If you know how to jumper the thermostat circuit try it, Millivolt systems will give you problems if there are loose connections or to much resistance through a switch. Again, there could be some type of safety switch that is wired into the thermostat circuit to prevent the heater from coming on if it isn't safe. Call a pro if its not obvious

My pilot light won't stay light


Most often, this is a faulty thermocouple. Replace it, but first be sure the pilot flame is actually heating the thermocouple. If it is not, it will not stay lit. Sometimes they fall down out of it's holding bracket or just go bad. A lazy yellow pilot flame means the pilot orifice is dirty and needs to be cleaned. If the pilot flame is a string blue color, then replace the thermocouple.

The pilot won't stay lit on gas hot water tank.


Make sure thermocouple tip is seated inside the burner flame.
Make sure thermocouple is not overtightened. Finger-tight + 1/4 turn.
If the pilot lights, then ECO energy cut off is not tripped, but gas control valve might be bad.
Check color of pilot flame: it should be strong and clear blue.
If pilot flame is weak, or color of flame is yellow-orange: Clean pilot orifice and burner and combustion parts on yearly basis.
Clean air intake screen if applicable.
Increase air supply to water heater. Open a window and see what happens.
Check for adequate draft going up chimney using match under vent hood to see if smoke drafts immediately upwards.
Bleed air out of gas line.
Check gas pressure.

I have a Empire DV210 wall mount vented furnace. The pilot light is very hard to start and has a very small flame not touching the thermopile. The flame is blue but very small. I can not get the primary...


Hi,
The pilot ofifice probably has a bit of dirt in it...to get it out you will need to take the pilot apart and clean it out...this can be fairly difficult on those heaters and getting it back together can be a pain...pay attention as you take it apart...blow our the tip with canned air like you would use to clean your keyboard...
Then reassemble...
Sometimes the "hood" or the cover over the flame will bend up over time and you will also have to bend it down a bit to get the pilot flame onto the thermocouple...make sure the thermocouple is also pushed all the way up in the holder...

I have an Empire gas heater. It does not stay lit. It will go out after about 30 minutes to two hours. When we first started having this problem if you set it where it wasn't completely level it would stay...


Look at your thermocouple. Is it glowing red from being heated by the pilot flame? Is the pilot flame blue or yellow? You may have a dirty pilot orifice that is not heating your thermocouple enough to keep it lit after the burner cycles off. A yellow flame will eventually burn the tip of the thermocouple, which causes more frequent problems and eventually it will not work at all. If you have a can of compressed air with attached straw, use it to blow out the pilot orifice (with the gas off) where the pilot flame usually burns. Then examine the tip of the thermocouple and see if it is still round and smooth. Jagged or irregular tips mean it should be replaced. A blue pilot flame and a new thermocouple should do it. Pilot light won't light the low flame or stay on


If the pilot light will light at all but not have a good strong flame I would remove pilot assembly and clean it thourghly,being careful not to damage pilot orifice. Reinstall pilot and seeif you have any improvement. If pilot still won't stay lit I would replace thermocouple being careful to make sure top inch or so is in pilot flame. Hope this helps. Thanks

Wall mounted CBN30T, pilot goes out


IF its balance flue it could be blocked . Burner or orifice blocked lack of air to pilot slightly blocked thermocouple defective .

The thermocoupler is no good. It's that bulb sitting in the pilot flame. when it goes out it shuts everything doen in the main valve. It has to be kept hot by the pilot, that's how it know whether or not it is safe to open the main .

The pilot light flame would sometimes get very small and keep going out. This was usually because the pilot orifice was getting dirty and was partly plugged. The pilot orifice must be cleaned out when the flame becomes too small to light the main burner. You can blow air through the pilot assembly to help clean it out, don't use something metal in the pilot orifice hole or you risk enlarging the pilot gas feed hole and the pilot light may be too BIG. If your pilot flame keeps "going out", chances are you will need to replace the pilot latch do make sure the vent hood flapper is closing ok and no outside air blowing in is effecting the pilot flame.
This is a thermocouple that sensed the heat from the pilot flame and kept a small amount of gas flowing to allow the pilot light to stay lit. If you followed the instructions ( usually found inside the small access door on the front bottom ) on how to re-lite your pilot when it goes out and the flame will not stay on, replace the pilot latch assembly.

Pilot lights and one panel burns


Empire faw 40 makes a loud bang when starting up. There are three burners. The pilot light is on one burner. When the furnace starts, gas is lit on that burner and the flame is passed on to the other burners by a small channel that can get stopped up. You just have to remove the burners and clean the channel with a small file, like on a finger nail clipper. This can be difficult due to the pilot assemble being attached with two bolts. The bolt on the right has to be removed with a short screw driver. You can not get a socket on it. After you remove it there is enough play to remove the bracket and gas burners.3_4_2012_5_06_50_am.jpg

The pilot orifice could be dirty causing the pilot flame to be too small. Unscrew the pilot tube at the pilot assembly. The orifice is inside. Remove the orifice and blow it out with compressed air only. Reassemble and see if that fixes the problem. If the pilot flame is set too low, sometimes opening a door will cause a draft to blow out the pilot. If the thermocouple is good and the pilot flame is set properly, the control valve may be bad.
