SOURCE: can I add a blue ray player to my Panasonic

Yes, sort of. IF the BD has OPTICAL digital audio. Otherwise you won't hear it in multichannel.

I'd run the BD's HDMI or component video straight to the TV.

You will need a special remote and a special service code for that. The remote can be rented from here
It will come already programmed for your unit and with instruction for a safe use.

SOURCE: I wanted to know if there is a way to hook up the

Yes this can be done. You have several options for audio hookup. Stereo 2-channel (white and red) RCA cables, digital audio (optical or coaxial) or HDMI. Your home theater must have the inputs available such as optical, coaxial etc. Typically the stereo 2-channel RCA is the simple way. Just connect from the Bluray audio outputs to the Home theater inputs (white and red) for stereo sound. Select the input on the home theater. For Dolby Digital 5.1 use optical digital audio cable (black port) or coaxial (orange RCA port) from Bluray to similar home theater input.

SOURCE: I have Panasonic home theater

  • You sure can use the same speakers. Any BluRay theater system player that supports a 5.1 surround capabilities will allow you to use all 5 speakers just like you do now. To use the sub (big speaker on the ground) the player will have to have an output for the sub specifically.
  • If you get a Blue Ray player (just the player) you will only be able to use the speakers if the BlueRay player is set up for it (not all are)
  • If you upgrade to just a Blue Ray player then you would need a receiver to run the speakers to.
  • The taller/bigger speakers are the side speakers and the shorter/smaller speakers are for right behind the sitting /viewing area. The smaller speaker is the center channel and goes on the entertainment center or in front of the viewing area. The sub would sit on the floor off in a corner.
  • It is pure preference on your part which way you want to go.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

Check all audio settings. Does your unit offer 2 channel and 5.1 or 7.1 surround settings? When in doubt, I reset to default or factory settings and see if it works.

No sound through the Panasonic cinema surround sound on TV

Had a similar problem mate. I solved it by connecting the tv to the PT460 system with a scart lead. You then have to have the AV channel selected on the PT460 system to listen to the tv. You will always have to have the AV channel on the PT460 selected to listen to any sound transmitted through the tv - be it playstation/xbox or any other device that you may connect in the future with HDMI leads or otherwise. Hope this helps

Panasonic SA-PT460 without speakers, where do i get the connectors

We have EXACTLY the same problem and have found out from Panasonic that the connectors are unavailable. We are at present trying female connectors covered with heat shrink tubing. Seems to work but having the right ones would be a lot better.
